THE INVESTIGATORS
FILE NO. ESX-24 · PERSONNEL

THE CASE  |  THE INVESTIGATORS  |  SESSION LOG  |  CLIPPINGS

Five investigators, as of the end of session 36. Sanity is shown as current over starting, so you can see what the summer has cost them. Players are listed by first name, at their request, since some of them have supervisors who read the Internet.

PROF. CHARLES IVEY
Age 54
Professor of Ancient History, Miskatonic University
Arkham

PLAYER: Brian
SANITY: 41/65
MYTHOS: 9%
The scholar. Pipe, tweed, a wife who worries, and a library card he should have torn up in 1923. He reads everything, which is how he came to read the Wexcombe Psalter in session 32, which is why his Sanity looks the way it does. He has started talking in his sleep. His wife does not recognize the language. Neither does he, when she tells him about it in the morning. Brian has read all of Lovecraft and is constantly having to pretend Professor Ivey hasn't.

MISS ELEANOR BUCHHOLZ
Age 29
Reporter, the Boston Evening Courier
Back Bay, Boston

PLAYER: Vicki
SANITY: 52/70
MYTHOS: 3%
The only woman on the city desk, and her editor would rather she wrote about church suppers. She files a story every session anyway. He spikes most of them. She has a camera, a notebook, a sharp tongue and the best Sanity in the group, which she credits to never sleeping long enough to dream. She is the one who keeps the clippings, and the one who keeps asking the questions the others are afraid of. Vicki keeps her own notes in shorthand.

DR. HAROLD HOYE
Age 46
Physician, general practice
Salem

PLAYER: Jesse
SANITY: 38/60
MYTHOS: 4%
The doctor. Served in France in the war, and thought he had seen the worst a human body could go through. He was wrong, and he keeps finding new ways to be wrong. He has stitched up Mr. Amaral three times and Mr. Craddock twice and has started charging them. In session 33 he was the one who shook the housekeeper's hand at Ravensholm and noticed. He hasn't told the others exactly what he noticed. Jesse hasn't told me what he's going to do about it.

MR. JEROME AMARAL
Age 37
Private Investigator
Office near Scollay Square, Boston

PLAYER: Phyllis
SANITY: 29/55
MYTHOS: 5%
INDEFINITELY INSANE
Born in New Bedford to a fishing family, worked the boats as a boy, went to Boston to get away from the water and became a detective. Fists, a .38 and a cheap office. In session 31, out on the Wexcombe marsh at night, he lost twelve points of Sanity in under an hour, and he has had a terror of deep water ever since. In a campaign about a fishing village. Phyllis took this extremely well and plays it beautifully. He will no longer go near the shore without a drink in him, and it is 1924, so the drink is a problem of its own.

MR. OTIS CRADDOCK
Age 31
Dilettante
Marblehead

PLAYER: Bart
SANITY: 47/75
MYTHOS: 2%
Old shipping money, a Packard touring car, a double-barreled shotgun his grandfather brought back from somewhere, and absolutely nothing to do all day. He joined the investigators in March of this year, when Bart lost his first character (see below), and he has paid for most of their train tickets, hotel rooms and bail since. He is the bravest of them, which is not the same as the wisest. He knows Anthony Barrington from the yacht club. That is going to matter.

Candle
THE FALLEN

MR. HARRY LOPEZ, antiquarian bookseller, Boston. Bart's first investigator, March 1998 to February 1999. Kind, curious, a little deaf in one ear, and the best Library Use in the group. In session 24, on Saturday, February 27, 1999, he heard someone calling his name from inside the Kingsport fog, and he went out into it to see who it was, and the others heard him laughing for a while, and then they didn't. His shop is still closed. Bart brought a pound cake the next session. We ate it in his honor.
