My grandson tells me that a web page ought to have pictures. My scanner can't scan a computer game, so the drawing above will have to stand in. It isn't to scale. Nothing I draw is to scale.

How We Came By It
Anyone who has tried to place a house in Britannia this past year knows that the land near the towns filled up long ago. We saved for most of 1998. Every sword I made that wasn't good enough to sell went back into the forge, and every one that was went onto a vendor. Wren sewed until her fingers would have bled if they were real fingers. When we finally had the price of a Tower deed, Brother Aldous and Kestrel spent three evenings walking the woods with the deed in hand, looking for a patch of ground big enough and flat enough. They found this one on a Sunday night in February, and I am told Kestrel shouted so loud her husband came in from the garage.

The Ground Floor: The Shop
The front door opens on our shop, which is open to anyone who comes in peace. Three vendors stand along the walls:

  • Tobias's Arms — swords, maces, axes and plate armor, all exceptional, all made by my own hand. I don't sell anything I wouldn't wear.
  • Tallis Cloth & Dye — Wren's cloaks, robes, shirts and sashes in more colors than I knew existed.
  • Kestrel's Bows — bows, crossbows and arrows. Now priced sensibly.

Ruck built us a counter and a pair of benches. Our sign outside reads THE COPPER KETTLE, as it should.

The Second Floor: The Guild Hall
This is where our guildstone sits, and where we meet on Friday nights. Ruck made us a long table and ten chairs, which is two more chairs than we have members, on the theory that we'll grow into them. There is a bookcase with books members have written, mostly Marigold's notes on which reagents go where, and one very long book of Hob's about the Minoc mines that I recommend to no one.

The Third Floor: Storage and the Rune Library
Our chests are here, locked down and secured, full of ingots, cloth, boards and reagents. Brother Aldous keeps the rune library on this floor as well: a chest of recall runes, each one marked and named, to the moongates, the banks, the good mining spots, Wren's favorite sheep, and so on. If you take a rune, bring it back.

The Roof
My favorite spot. You can see a good way through the trees from up there, which is useful when there are reds about, and on a quiet evening it's a fine place to stand and do nothing at all. Ruth came and looked over my shoulder one night while I was standing up there, and said it looked peaceful. It is.

Tower Rules

  1. Close every door behind you. I say this on every page because it bears repeating.
  2. Anything left on the floor that isn't locked down can be picked up by anyone who wanders in. Lock it down or take it with you.
  3. If a red gets in, go upstairs, close the door, and send word to me. As the owner I can ban him from the house, and I'm glad to do it.
  4. A house that isn't visited begins to decay, so I stop in every day or two without fail. If I'm ever laid up, I'll leave word on the second floor table, and I would thank you all to keep an eye on the place.
  5. No brawling in the shop. Take it outside. Better yet, don't.

If you're on the Chesapeake shard, come see us. If you're not, you're welcome to write:
