The Lanternwatch
an EverQuest guild for grown-ups who log off for supper
~ ◆ ~
Welcome, traveler. Pull up a stool by the fire. The Lanternwatch was founded in April of this year, about three weeks after my husband and I bought EverQuest "just to see what it was about" and then forgot to eat dinner for a month. We're a small, friendly guild of about fifteen regulars. Most of us have jobs, some of us have kids, all of us have learned the hard way what happens when you go AFK in the middle of Crushbone.

Our Charter
- Never steal a kill. If someone's already fighting it, it's theirs. Ask before you help.
- Never train. If you have to run for the zone line with half of Unrest behind you, shout it so the people at the zone can get out of the way.
- Loot is rolled. Everyone who can use the item types /random 100 and high roll wins. No arguing after the roll.
- Help the little ones. When a new member is level 6 and lost in the Karana plains, somebody goes and gets them. Every one of us was level 6 and lost once.
- Corpse runs are a guild activity. If you die somewhere awful, ask in guild chat. Somebody will come.
- Real life comes first. The baby is crying? Go. The pot's boiling over? Go. We'll hold the camp.
- Be kind in public. Our tag is over your head. Act like it.

Last night nine of us went down into Lower Guk and held a camp for almost four hours. Two deaths, one very long corpse run, and every single body recovered. Tamsin pulled like a champion. Fennick's pet ate a frog that was not supposed to be eaten, and we don't talk about the next five minutes. Thank you all. That was the best guild night we've had.

Brogar made it through level 40! That's one of the "hell levels" where the experience bar barely moves, so this has been weeks in the making. We had a party on the hill outside Qeynos, and then a real party in the real kitchen, because Brogar and I live in the same house and he'd earned a real cake.

Our Great Guild Boat Trip to Faydwer. Fourteen of us met at the Freeport docks to ride over to Butcherblock together. Three made it onto the boat. The rest of us stood on the dock and watched it go, and waited for the next one, which was twenty minutes of the best guild chat we've ever had. Everyone got to Kaladim eventually. Pip is still somewhere in the Ocean of Tears as far as I know.

Welcome to Morvessa, Sorrel and Oskar! And yes, Morvessa is a Dark Elf. She's lovely. Please stop asking her whether she's a spy.
Guild Nights
Sundays, 7:00 Eastern (4:00 for our West Coast folks). We meet at the guild's usual bind spot and decide together where to go, which takes longer than it should. Levels 25 and up for the big group; the lower levels team up in their own groups and the officers check in on them.
Wednesdays are "help night." Need a quest item, a corpse dragged, a port, a buff, or just company? That's the night.
Someday we'll go after Lady Vox up in Permafrost. Not this year. We know our limits, and our limits are about level 38.
Joining the Lanternwatch
We take any race and any class, level 10 and up, as long as you've read the charter above and mean it. Group with a couple of us for a night or two first so we get to know you. Then send a tell to Aelwyn, Brogar or Tessaly, or e-mail me below. We don't PvP and we're not in any hurry to reach 50. If that sounds good to you, you'll fit right in.
Travelers who have warmed their hands at our fire:

Colleen Varga, who is Aelwyn, High Elf Cleric of Tunare, level 38

EverQuest belongs to its makers. The Lanternwatch belongs to all of us.
