THE BASEMENT FILES
a PG X-Files fan fiction archive  •  pinned to the corkboard since November 1997

Welcome to the basement. Watch your head on the pipes.

The Basement Files is a small archive for X-Files fan fiction rated G or PG only. That's the whole point of it. There are plenty of archives out there for the other stuff; this one is for people who want a good casefile, a funny Lone Gunmen story, or a little Mulder-and-Scully longing, and want to be able to read it with their teenager in the room. Every story here was sent to me by its author and is posted with permission.

I'm Colleen, I'm the archivist, and I also write a little. I live in Maryland, about forty minutes from the real Hoover Building, and yes, I've driven past it and waved.

The Basement Files moved here in August from my old college account, which finally got shut off. I'm putting the older stories back up a few at a time as I hear back from their authors, so check the board often.

No new episodes till Season 7 starts this fall, and after that Biogenesis cliffhanger I don't know how any of us are standing it. In the meantime, read.

DISCLAIMER: The X-Files, Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, the Lone Gunmen and all related characters belong to Chris Carter, Ten Thirteen Productions and 20th Century Fox. They're borrowed here with love and returned in good condition. No infringement intended. Nobody here makes a dime. Any original characters and plots belong to the authors who wrote them.

NEW ON THE BOARD

Gannet Rock Light, Part 1 of 4, by Mara Q.
Rated: PG  |  Category: X / MSR  |  Spoilers: through Season 6
An automated lighthouse off the coast of Maine keeps writing entries in its keeper's logbook. The keeper died in 1931. Part 2 comes in October.

HOW TO READ THE LABELS

Ratings: G = anybody. PG = some scary parts, some mild language, maybe a kiss on the forehead. That's the ceiling here. If your story needs more than that, it needs a different archive.

Categories: X = an X-File, a case. H = humor. V = vignette, a short scene. A = angst, keep the tissues handy. MSR = Mulder/Scully romance, PG version: longing looks, hands on the small of backs, meaningful hallway moments. You know the ones.

Spoilers are always marked. If a story says "through Season 6" and you're still catching up on tape, you've been warned.

SEND ME YOUR STORY
  • E-mail it to [email protected] as plain text in the body of the message. No attachments, no Word files, please.
  • At the top, give me: title, pen name, rating, category, timeline or spoilers, a one-line summary, and your disclaimer.
  • G or PG only. I read everything before it goes up, and I'll tell you if something needs trimming.
  • Your own writing only. Don't copy dialogue from the episodes. Put the characters in your own words; that's the fun of it.
  • Tell me if you want feedback forwarded. Feedback is the only paycheck any of us get, so readers: if you like a story, write the author! I'll pass it along.
