The Fill-in-the-Blanks Template
Class Pages 101 · Mrs. Lyons

← Back to Class Pages 101

This is the whole class page I use, with the blanks left in. It's plain on purpose: white background, black letters, no pictures, so it loads fast on the old computer in the family room and prints on one or two sheets for the grandparents. Every word in [SQUARE BRACKETS] is a blank for you to fill in.

How to use it

  1. Highlight all the code in the white box below, from <HTML> to </HTML>, and copy it (Edit, Copy).

  2. Open Notepad and paste it in (Edit, Paste).

  3. Replace every word in square brackets with your own, and take out the brackets. When you think you're done, use Search, Find in Notepad and look for a [ to catch the ones you missed. I always miss one.

  4. Save it as index.html. In the Save As box, set "Save as type" to All Files, or Notepad will save it as index.html.txt and you'll wonder why nothing works.

  5. Upload it with the File Manager in your GeoCities.us Member Center. You can also open it there in the Basic HTML Editor and make your weekly changes right in your browser.

  6. Every week: change the date at the top, "What We're Learning," the homework, the spelling words, "Coming Up," and the "Last updated" date at the bottom. That's your twenty minutes.

Keep a copy on a floppy disk in your desk drawer. Computers in schools have a way of being "reimaged" over Christmas break.

Filled in

Here's what mine looked like last week, with the blanks filled in. (I've taken our room number off for this page, which is why that line is missing.)

Mrs. Lyons' Fourth Grade

Week of September 20

What We're Learning

In reading we're halfway through Stone Fox, and everyone wants to know whether Willy and Searchlight can win the race. (If your child has already read it, no spoilers at the dinner table, please!) In math we're working on place value into the millions. In social studies we start our Ohio unit with the rivers and the glaciers that flattened most of the state. In science it's the water cycle, so ask your child where the puddle went.

Homework

Monday: Write each spelling word three times. Math page 22.
Tuesday: Read Chapter 6 of Stone Fox and write two sentences about Willy.
Wednesday: Math page 24. Study spelling words.
Thursday: Study for the spelling test.
Friday: No homework! Read something you like.

Spelling List

Test on Friday.

  1. explain
  2. daily
  3. weigh
  4. neighbor
  5. eighth
  6. straight
  7. raise
  8. crayon
  9. afraid
  10. delay

Coming Up

  • September 24: Library books due
  • October 8: Field trip permission slips due
  • October 14: Field trip (details went home on paper)

Supplies

If you can spare a box of tissues, we're down to our last one. Thank you!

Notice what's not there: no children's names, no pictures, no school name, and nothing that says where the class will be on the day of the trip. The details of the trip went home on paper, in the folder, where they belong.
