Signs YOU Sent In!
from band geeks all over the country
<< back to the 60 signs

When I put my list up I did NOT think anybody would write to me. Then I got e-mail from eleven states in two weeks!! Here are the best ones. I only put first names because my mom said so. Keep sending them! You know you're a band geek when...

Timothy, 14, trumpet, Ohio
...you have a ring on your lips from your mouthpiece and your grandma asks if you've been drinking out of a glass too hard.

...you can play your part with your eyes closed but you can't find your dot with them open.
Sabrina, 14, flute, Texas
...it's 100 degrees at practice and your director says it's "a good day to build character."

...you have been mistaken for a piccolo player and you were insulted. (Sorry piccolos.)
Joel, 18, sousaphone, Iowa
...you've gotten your sousaphone stuck in the bus door and the whole band counted you off while you got out.

...you walk into a room and turn your whole body instead of your head, because that's how you do it with thirty pounds of brass on your shoulder.

...it's your senior year and you already miss it.
Enrique, 16, snare drum, California
...you drum on every surface in the house and your mom has hidden all the wooden spoons.

...you can't eat cereal without playing a cadence with the spoon first.
Chad, 15, baritone, Kentucky
...you have to explain to every single person that a baritone is NOT a little tuba.

...you know your uniform number better than your locker combination.
Daniel, 14, alto sax, Illinois
...your neck strap left a mark and you're proud of it.

...you were the only one at your cousin's wedding who stood up straighter when the band started.
Kathleen, 14, color guard, Pennsylvania
...you catch your flag on a ceiling fan at home. Twice.

...you have a bruise shaped like a rifle and you show it to people like a medal.

...the band kids say "the guard" like we're a different school. WE ARE THE BAND TOO!!!
Stacy, 18, drum major, Georgia
...you conduct the radio in the car at red lights.

...you salute your parents when they pick you up and you don't even notice anymore.
Andres, 13, 8th grade trumpet, Florida
...you're not even in high school yet and you already practice eight-to-five in the driveway with chalk lines.
Ebony, 12, 7th grade clarinet, Michigan
...you read a whole web page about marching band and you're not even in marching band yet. (Next year!!! I'm going to be a clarinet like you!)

Catherine says: Ebony, you will LOVE it. Bring sunscreen to band camp, and put it on the part in your hair. And Joel, I'm sorry you're a senior. Stacy, I told Stephen about saluting your parents and he said "that's not a joke, that's a lifestyle."
