Back to Born in Portland, 1929
These are some of the people in my monthly group. Some are adoptees like me, looking for a birth mother or father. Two are birth mothers, looking for the children they gave up. Each one asked me to put their notice here, and each one read it over before I did.
If anything here rings a bell (a birth date, a town, a detail somebody's aunt once mentioned), please write to me at [email protected] and I will pass your letter along that same day. I will never give out anyone's address or last name without asking them first, on either side.
Most of us are also signed up with the State's voluntary registry. If you think you might be someone's birth parent or someone's child, please sign up there too. It only works when both people do.
MARJORIE adoptee
Born: October 2, 1934, Portland, Oregon
Lived in a children's home in Portland until she was nearly three, then adopted by a couple in Albany. She remembers a lady in a green coat who visited the home and cried, and has always wondered. Her adoptive mother told her once that her birth mother was "a farm girl from the valley."

MICHAEL adoptee
Born: September 12, 1974, Bend, Oregon
The youngest in our group. Michael's papers say he was the third child of a married couple who couldn't keep him, which means he may have two older brothers or sisters somewhere in central Oregon. He would be glad to hear from any of them.

Not from Oregon?
Measure 58 only helps those of us born in Oregon, and only adoptees, not birth parents. If you were born somewhere else, the rules are different in every state, and most of them are closed. Look for a search group near you. You don't have to do this alone.
A birth mother in Wichita named Janice has a page called Searching for My Son. She is looking for the baby boy she had in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 9, 1973. If you were born in Kansas City that spring, please go read it. She wrote it the same way I'd want my own mother to.
