FIELD BOOK NO. 99-L PG. 2 MILESTONE FRAMES SAME INSTRUMENT, SAME STATION, SAME ANGLE. COMPARE WITH THE CURRENT OBSERVATION. |
The camera saves a frame every ten minutes, which comes to about 72 a day and better than 14,000 since the groundbreaking. I keep one from each week on a Zip disk. These are the two that people ask for.
| 1. FOOTINGS - TUES. APRIL 20, 1999, 10:40 A.M. |

Six weeks in. The lot is scraped to red clay and the building is drawn on the ground in trenches, with the forms and the reinforcing steel in them. The mixer at the right is pouring the first of the footings. Overcast and damp, which is how the whole of April was. You can see the line of the building here as plain as on the drawings: the long side runs parallel to the street, the reading room at the east end, toward the old warehouse.
Note for the surveyors among you: I measured the setback from the curb with a tape the evening of the 19th, while nobody was looking. It is what the plat says it is.
| 2. STEEL - THURS. JUNE 17, 1999, 9:50 A.M. |

The slab is down and the columns are standing. The crane is swinging a beam over to the two ironworkers on the lift, who will guide it onto the columns and bolt it. That crane was on the lot four days, and I believe half the retired men in Haddon came by to stand on the sidewalk and supervise. A number of them stood in my front yard. Dolores brought out tea.
