COMMITTEES & VOLUNTEERS
Project Graduation home · September Minutes

Here is every committee, who chairs it, and what each one needs right now. To sign up, send an e-mail to [email protected] with the committee name in the subject line, and tell us your name, your senior's name, and the best time to reach you. We forward every e-mail to the chair the same night. No computer? Send a note to school with your senior, attention Ms. O'Shea.

You don't have to have run anything before. You just have to show up.

WHO'S WHO
Co-Chairs: Carlton and Barbara Poindexter
Treasurer: Craig Roe
Recording Secretary: Laura Ruffner
Faculty Liaison: Ms. Lydia O'Shea, senior class sponsor
Principal: Mr. Jackie Blythe
Senior Class Committee: Alexandria, Deandre, Erin, Jacob and Jennifer

FUNDRAISING · Chair: Bruce Campos
Runs the concession stand, the spaghetti dinner, the wreath sale and the Millennium Raffle.
Openings:
• Homecoming concession stand, Friday, October 8: 16 people, two shifts (5:30 to 7:45, 7:45 to the end). 9 signed up so far.
• Spaghetti dinner, Friday, October 15: 10 servers and 4 dishwashers, plus pies and cakes for the dessert table.
• Wreath pick-up day, Saturday, December 4: 6 parents with a van or pickup truck to deliver for older neighbors.
• Raffle ticket sellers: everybody!

FOOD & BEVERAGES · Chair: Joan Delbosque
Food every two hours on the night: pizza at 11, a sub and taco bar at 1, ice cream sundaes at 3, and a hot breakfast at 4:30 so nobody drives home hungry. (The seniors aren't driving. You know what we mean.)
Openings:
• 12 kitchen volunteers on the night, in two-hour shifts.
• Anyone with a connection to a restaurant or a grocery store who might donate breakfast for 350.
• Donations of 2-liter sodas and bottled water, starting in May. Please don't bring them yet. Our garages are full.

ENTERTAINMENT & GAMES · Chair: William Uresti
Hypnotist (booked), DJ (two quotes in, deciding in October), caricature artist, karaoke, inflatables, casino tables, the basketball tournament and the movie room.
Openings:
• 8 casino dealers. We will teach you blackjack. Play money only.
• 2 scorekeepers for the 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
• Anyone who owns a karaoke machine, or knows someone who does.

PRIZES & DONATIONS · Chair: Teresa McElwain
Every senior goes home with something, and the grand prize is a car. Teresa has the donation letter on school letterhead, ready to copy.
Openings:
• 4 askers to visit businesses near where you work or shop. Teresa will give you a list so two of us don't walk into the same pizza place.
• 1 record keeper to log every donation and write the thank-you notes.

DECORATIONS & THEME · Chair: Lisa Wendel
The seniors voted on a theme in September: A Night in Monte Carlo. Lisa is already collecting gold lamé and Christmas lights.
Openings:
• 10 people for set-up the afternoon of graduation day.
• Painters for backdrops, starting in March. You don't have to be good. Lisa will draw the lines.
• Anybody with a garage or basement where the backdrops can live until June.

SECURITY & CHECK-IN · Chair: Thomas Merriweather
Check-in at the door, bag check, the sign-out desk, and the exits. Two off-duty county police officers will be hired for the night.
Openings:
• 8 parents for the check-in table, 10:30 p.m. to midnight.
• 4 parents per shift on the exit doors. Bring a book. Nobody gets out, and nobody gets in.

TRANSPORTATION · Chair: Wendell Beeler
Four buses reserved, from the school lot at 10:30 p.m. and back at 5:15 a.m.
Openings:
• 4 bus chaperones, one per bus, both ways. You will be the most popular person on the bus at 5:15 a.m., because you will be holding the donuts.

PUBLICITY & TICKETS · Chair: Sandra Naugle
Flyers, the parent newsletter, the school marquee, announcements, and ticket sales to seniors starting in January.
Openings:
• 2 people for the ticket table at senior lunch, one day a week, January through May.
• Someone who can make flyers on a computer. (Carlton offered. Sandra said thank you, she'd keep looking.)

CLEAN-UP CREW · Chair: OPEN!
Somebody has to take down Monte Carlo at 5:30 in the morning and hand the building back by 8. This is the one committee with no chair yet, and it's a good one for a parent who can't do evenings but doesn't mind an early alarm. We need a chair and 12 helpers. Coffee provided. Lots of coffee.

THE NIGHT ITSELF: 90 PARENTS

Besides the committees, we need parents to work two-hour shifts on graduation night. Parents of seniors work the kitchen, the doors and the office, not the party rooms, so the seniors have their night. Parents of juniors and younger kids are wanted in the party rooms. Next year, we'll return the favor.
