1999 BATTING LEADERS
Regular season only, 14 games · back to the league page

Compiled from all eight scorebooks by yours truly over three evenings and one pot of coffee. Minimum 40 at-bats to qualify for average. Tournament games don't count, so Mike Schaller's walk-off is not in here, but it is in our hearts.

Pitching: Bob Ainsworth threw every inning for the Circuit Riders and went 12-2. In slow-pitch that mostly means he stood very still and trusted his outfield, which he will tell you is harder than it looks. Honorable mention to the Nazarenes' Walt Dorsey, who took a line drive off the shin in June, stayed in, and finished the game.

Most improved: Randy Kessinger of the Reformers, from one home run last year to six. He credits a new bat. His wife credits the batting cage out on the highway and forty dollars in quarters.

For the record: your league secretary hit .549 (28 for 51) and did not make any of the lists. Thank you for asking.
