SUNDAY NIGHT, JUNE 16:
WE DID IT. I have been yelling since the middle of the fourth quarter and my wife
says if I don't stop she's going to her sister's, so I'm going to type instead. Bear with me.
GAME 6: BULLS 87, SONICS 75
Right here at the United Center, on Father's Day. You all know what Father's Day
means for Michael, and when the horn went and he grabbed that ball and went down on the
floor I'm not ashamed to say I lost it a little bit. Big guy, 36 years old, crying in
my brother-in-law's basement in front of a bowl of Doritos. Two years ago
he was playing baseball in Birmingham. Last spring he came back wearing 45 and Orlando sent
us home. This year we swept Orlando. And now this.
Dennis was all over the boards again, Scottie played the whole floor like he always does,
and the defense just choked Seattle out in the second half. Finals MVP: Michael Jordan.
Like there was a question.
Credit where it's due, Seattle was a good team. They won 64 games. Payton guarded MJ
tough, Kemp was a monster, and they didn't quit after being down 3-0. Games 4 and 5 out
there were no fun at all. I figured if we had to come back home we'd get it done, and we did.

THE SEASON
- 72-10. Best record in the history of the NBA. The old record was 69-13 by the 1971-72 Lakers. Not anymore.
- 39-2 at home. If you came to the United Center this year you saw a win, pretty much guaranteed. I went once, a Tuesday in February, way up top. Worth every penny.
- Michael: scoring title (again), league MVP, All-Star MVP and now Finals MVP. All four in one year.
- Dennis: led the league in rebounding. Everybody said the Rodman trade was crazy. We gave San Antonio Will Perdue. Who's crazy now?
- Phil Jackson: Coach of the Year.
- Toni Kukoc: Sixth Man of the Year.
- Playoffs: Miami 3-0, New York 4-1, Orlando 4-0, Seattle 4-2.
THE GUYS
| 23 | Michael Jordan. The best there ever was. Came back and made it look easy. It wasn't easy. |
| 33 | Scottie Pippen. Would be the best player on any other team in the league. Guards everybody from the point guard to the center. |
| 91 | Dennis Rodman. My wife calls him "your boyfriend with the hair." Hair color as of tonight: I honestly can't keep up. Nobody goes after a rebound like this guy. |
| 7 | Toni Kukoc. Six-eleven and passes like a guard. Came all the way from Croatia and I'm glad he did. |
| 9 | Ron Harper. Used to be a scorer. Now he plays defense and does whatever they ask. Respect. |
| 13 | Luc Longley. Seven-foot-two from Australia. Takes a lot of heat from guys on talk radio. I like him. |
| 25 | Steve Kerr. Don't leave him open. I'm telling you. Don't do it. |
| 34 | Bill Wennington. Big Canadian, hits the 15-footer, never complains. |
| 30 | Jud Buechler. Comes in, hustles, high-fives everybody. Every team needs one. |
And the Zen Master himself, Phil, with Tex Winter and the triangle. Don't ask me to
explain the triangle. I have been watching it for years and I just know it works.
