EVAN'S FOOTBALL STORIES
by Evan, age 11, #54, CENTER

 10  ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Evan and I am 11 and in sixth grade and I live in Texas. I play CENTER on my football team, the Mustangs. That is the guy who snaps the ball to the quarterback. Every play starts with me. If I mess up, the whole play messes up. No pressure, ha ha.

This is my second year of tackle. Before that I played flag. Tackle is better.

I also like to write football stories. I write them in a spiral notebook (I'm on my third one) and then I type them on our computer. My mom helps with spelling but the stories are all mine. My teacher last year said I should put them on the Internet, so here they are!

Other stuff about me: I have a little sister who is 7 and she comes to every game and yells "GO EVAN" even when I'm not on the field. My favorite food is chicken fried steak. My favorite NFL team is the Dallas Cowboys. My favorite Cowboy is whoever is playing center, because nobody ever says the center's name on TV, and I think somebody should.

 20  MUSTANGS 1999 SEASON

We play on Saturday mornings. Here is how we are doing so far!

DATE GAME SCORE
Aug. 28 Jamboree (scrimmage, no score) --
Sept. 4 vs. Colts W 14-6
Sept. 11 vs. Rams L 7-20
Sept. 18 at Panthers (RAIN!!) W 8-6
Sept. 25 vs. Eagles W 13-12
Oct. 2 at Longhorns next!

RECORD: 3-1!!!

Game notes:

Colts: First game. Travis threw a touchdown to Derek on the first drive. I had zero bad snaps. Coach Pittman said "good job 54" which he never says.

Rams: They had a nose guard who was SO big. I think he was 13. I'm not saying he was 13 but I think he was 13. We lost. It's OK. We learned stuff.

Panthers: It rained the WHOLE game. Every single play. The field was all mud by the second quarter and you couldn't tell what color anybody's jersey was. We won 8 to 6 on a safety! I wrote my mud story the next day (it's on the stories page) but the story is not exactly what happened. My mom made me take my uniform off in the garage.

Eagles: Closest game ever. They scored with one minute left to make it 13-12 and went for two to win and Clint and Nicholas stuffed it at the line. I was right there. I mean I was on the bench because it was defense, but I was RIGHT there on the bench.

 30  MY FAVORITE BOOKS

My favorite author is Matt Christopher. He wrote about a million sports books. They have football, baseball, basketball, soccer, everything. My school library has a whole shelf of them and I have read all the football ones and I'm starting on the baseball ones. Here are my favorite football ones:

  • Catch That Pass! ~ The first one I ever read. I read it three times.
  • Touchdown for Tommy ~ My mom read this one when SHE was a kid. She said so.
  • Tough to Tackle ~ Good title. Good book.
  • The Great Quarterback Switch ~ This one has a really cool idea in it and I won't say what.
  • Tackle Without a Team ~ Kind of serious but really good.

I haven't found a Matt Christopher book about a center yet. That's OK. I'm writing one myself.

 40  MY STORIES

I have three stories done so far. They are all on one page.

ONE KICK ~ A third string kicker finally gets his chance. Will he make it?

THE MUD BOWL ~ The muddiest game in history!!

NOBODY WATCHES THE CENTER ~ My favorite one. You'll see why.

Coming soon: a story about a team that has to play on Thanksgiving morning. I'm on page 4.
