ELLIOTT'S FLORIDA TRIP!!!
THE BEST VACATION EVER (JUNE 1998)

SPACE MOUNTAIN 3 TIMES!!!    ***    OVER 1,000 MILES IN THE VAN!!!    ***    IT RAINED EVERY DAY AT 3:00!!!    ***    I SAW A REAL GIRAFFE!!!

HI!!!
My name is Elliott and I am 10. This is my page about when my family went to DISNEY WORLD in Florida last summer. It was the best vacation ever. I am doing all the typing and my dad is helping with the computer stuff.

We don't have a scanner so my dad scanned the pictures at his work. The orange numbers in the corner of the pictures are from our camera. It prints the date on every picture. 98 6 15 means June 15, 1998. Cool huh.

WHO WENT
  • Me (Elliott). I was 9 on the trip.
  • My dad Timothy. He drove the whole way and he was in charge of the map.
  • My mom Carla. She was in charge of the sunscreen and the camera.
  • My little sister Rachel. She was 6. She is 7 now.
  • Our van. It is a 1994 Plymouth Grand Voyager and it is maroon. That means dark red.

DAY 1 · SATURDAY JUNE 13

This is 5:00 in the MORNING. It is still dark out. I am the one in the green shirt and I was still asleep basically. Dad is making sure Rachel's seat belt is on.
We left at 5 in the morning and drove ALL DAY. We went through Kentucky and Tennessee and Georgia. Me and Rachel had pillows and a blanket in the middle seat. We played the license plate game and I got 23 states. Rachel only got like 4 because she kept falling asleep.

We slept in a motel in Valdosta, Georgia. It was almost to Florida.

DAY 2 · SUNDAY JUNE 14
We got to Kissimmee in the afternoon. That's where our motel was. It was on a big road with about a million gift shops and pancake places and mini golf. Our motel had a POOL and we swam until it got dark. That is why my page is blue with water. It's the pool.

It was SO HOT. Like 95 degrees. My dad said "it's not the heat, it's the humidity" about 50 times.

DAY 3 · MONDAY JUNE 15 · MAGIC KINGDOM

Me and Mom and Rachel. The castle is way in the back. It looks little in the picture but in real life it is HUGE. Rachel is doing her hand like that because the sun was in her eyes. That stroller is not ours, it just got in the picture.

This is the best ride in the whole world. It is a roller coaster but it is in the DARK so you can't see where you are going and it feels like you are in outer space. I went on it with my dad 2 times on Monday and 1 more time on Thursday. That is 3 times!!! Rachel was too scared so she went on the slow boat ride with Mom. She said it was fun but I think she was just saying that.

I TOOK THIS PICTURE MYSELF!!! It is the monorail. Mom let me use the camera. You have to be fast because it goes by fast. My mom said it came out better than hers did.

DAY 4 · TUESDAY JUNE 16 · EPCOT

Me and my dad in front of the giant golf ball. It isn't really a golf ball, there is a ride inside it. I am doing my monster face. Dad has the map because he ALWAYS has the map.

Then it RAINED. Mom bought us these rain ponchos. They are like a garbage bag with a hood. Rachel was mad because her hair got wet. I thought it was funny.
It rained every single afternoon about 3:00. There's thunder and lightning and it pours and then in like a half an hour it stops and it's sunny again and everything is steamy. My dad says that's how Florida is in the summer.

DAY 5 · WEDNESDAY JUNE 17 · ANIMAL KINGDOM
Animal Kingdom was BRAND NEW. It opened in April 1998 so we were some of the first people ever to go there. You ride in a big truck with no sides and it drives you around on a dirt road like you are in Africa. We saw elephants and a hippo and a lion that was sleeping.

See the giraffe? It is standing by the tree in the middle. It was closer in real life. That is the back of my dad's head in the corner. The truck was bumpy so it came out blurry.

Back at the motel. We were SO tired we fell asleep with our clothes on. I still have my shoes on. Mom took this to prove it. Rachel is hugging her stuffed giraffe she got at Animal Kingdom. She named him Spots. The bags on the other bed are all our souvenirs.

DAY 6 · THURSDAY JUNE 18 · MAGIC KINGDOM AGAIN
We went back to the Magic Kingdom because I begged to do Space Mountain one more time. And we stayed up really late for the FIREWORKS. Rachel fell asleep on Dad's shoulders right after.

Mom says this one did not turn out. But if you look in the middle you can see the castle (it's tiny) and the fireworks are at the top. The man in front of us was really tall.

DAY 7 · FRIDAY JUNE 19 · DISNEY-MGM STUDIOS
No pictures from this day because we ran out of film and everybody forgot to buy more. We saw a stunt show with explosions and people jumping off of buildings. It was pretend but it looked REAL. I could feel the fire on my face from way up in the seats.

DAYS 8 & 9 · JUNE 20 AND 21 · GOING HOME
We drove home on Saturday and Sunday. Rachel got carsick in Tennessee. That's all I'm going to say about that. We got home Sunday night and our cat was mad at us for leaving.

WORST THING: The line to meet the characters was a whole hour long and Rachel cried, so we left. That is why there are no pictures of us with the characters. (Sorry Rachel but it's true.)

NEW UPDATE Sept. 6: School started so I won't work on my page as much. I am in 5th grade now. My dad says maybe we can go back to Florida when I am 12. If we do I am going on Space Mountain 10 times.

A note from Elliott's dad: Elliott typed every word of this himself over about three Saturdays in July. My part was scanning the prints at the office on my lunch hour and showing him where the pictures go. His mom's rule is no last names and no hometown on the Internet, so that's why you won't find them here. If you write to him, I read the mail first. Thanks for looking.
