Welcome to Bright Ideas Sign & Banner on the Web! We are a small sign shop serving small businesses. If you've been putting off getting a sign because you figured it would cost a fortune and take a month, you came to the right place. Most of what we do is done in a couple of days, and the prices are right here on this page so you don't have to guess.

The shop is a one-man operation. My name is Tony, and I've been cutting vinyl and lettering trucks since 1991. When you call or e-mail, you talk to the person who's actually going to make your sign. There is nobody to transfer you to.

NEW for 1999: New! E-mail us the text you want on your banner or sign and we will e-mail you back a price, usually the same business day. See Get a Quote below.

TURNAROUND
  • Most banners: 2 business days. Bring your text in Monday, pick up Wednesday. If it's a simple one-color banner and you need it tomorrow, ask; if the plotter isn't busy we can usually do it.
  • Magnetic signs: 2 to 3 business days.
  • Real estate and yard signs: 3 to 5 business days, depending on how many.
  • Vehicle lettering: we cut the vinyl ahead of time, then you bring the vehicle in and it takes an afternoon. Please wash it first! Vinyl won't stick to dirt.
  • Storefront jobs: about a week from the time you approve the layout.
Rush jobs are welcome when we can do them and there's no big rush charge, just be honest with us about when you really need it. Everybody says "yesterday."

HOW WE MAKE YOUR SIGN
In the old days (1991) I hand-lettered everything with a brush, and I still do that for customers who want the old-fashioned look. But in the spring of 1998 we bought a computer-cut vinyl plotter, and it changed everything about the shop. Here's how it works: I type your text into the sign program on the computer, pick the lettering style and the size, and lay it out on the screen so you can see exactly what it'll look like. Then the plotter cuts the letters out of a roll of adhesive vinyl with a tiny blade, dead accurate, any size from a quarter inch to 24 inches tall. I weed out the extra vinyl, put transfer tape over the letters, and apply them to your banner, your truck, or your window. The letters come out perfectly straight and perfectly spaced every time, which I could never quite promise with a brush at 5 o'clock on a Friday.

The vinyl itself is outdoor-rated. In normal weather you can expect five to seven years on a vehicle or a sign panel before it starts to fade. We stock about twenty standard colors and can order most anything else.

We can also scan your existing logo or business card on the flatbed scanner and trace it into a cuttable file, so your sign matches your letterhead. Bring a clean, sharp copy; the scanner can't fix a fax of a fax.

RECENT WORK
We are still learning this web page business and photos of the work will be up as soon as we get them developed and scanned (they're on the counter; the roll is half used up). Until then, here's some of what has come out of the shop in the last few months, described in words:

The bakery on Main Street. New gold-leaf-look vinyl lettering across the front window, an arched script name with "Since 1962" underneath, and their hours on the door. Plus a 3' x 8' banner for their fall "pie season" that's up now. They wanted something that looked like it had always been there, and that's what they got.

A plumber's van. Both doors, the back doors and the rear side panels, in two colors, with a big drop of water we drew up from his business card. Name, phone, "24 Hour Service." He says he got two calls the first week from people who saw the van at a stoplight. That's what a lettered vehicle does; it's a sign that drives around.

A church banner. A 4' x 10' banner for a church's fall festival and pancake breakfast, red and blue lettering on white with a simple steeple, grommets every foot so it would stay put on the fence in a wind. Two years running now; they store it rolled up and it still looks new.

Also lately: magnetic signs for a lawn service (green on white, with a little mower), directional arrows for a real estate office's open houses, "Reserved Parking" panels for a doctor's office, the name on a pontoon boat (the name was "Knot Working"), and a set of banners for the Little League's championship weekend. Go Tigers.

If the door's locked during business hours I'm probably out lettering a truck; the sign on the door will say when I'm back, or just call.
