SIGNS YOU SENT IN!
You know you're a farm kid when... your e-mail fills up with other farm kids!

I put my page up in August and I thought maybe my cousins would read it. Then I started getting e-mail from farm kids all over! Here are the best ones so far. I'm only putting first names and states, because my mom said so, and she's right. My comments are in red, and my brothers' are in [blue brackets], as usual.

Misty, 15, Iowa: You know you're a farm kid when you've been on a date and it was to the sale barn cafe.
That counts. The pie is really good there.

Julius, 10, Missouri: You know you're a farm kid when the rooster is the alarm clock and the alarm clock is the backup.

Ellen, 18, Wisconsin: You know you're a farm kid when you've never had a day off from milking in your life, including your own birthday, including Christmas, and including the day you graduated. I did evening chores in my good clothes with my cap and gown hanging on a nail in the barn.
We just have beef cows, so we don't milk. I can't even imagine. You win.

Amanda, 14, South Dakota: You know you're a farm kid when you can back a trailer up better than your gym teacher.
[Robert: This is true of every farm kid in America.]

Roberto, 16, Texas: You know you're a farm kid when "it's only a hundred and two today" is a good day to work cattle, as long as you start at five.
We think 90 is hot. Texas wins on hot. Nebraska wins on wind.

Robyn, 12, Minnesota: You know you're a farm kid when your 4-H record book is thicker than your math book.

Deangelo, 13, Illinois: You know you're a farm kid when you go to the mall in the city and the first thing you notice is that it doesn't smell like anything.

Cameron, 13, Kansas (a town kid!): You know you're a TOWN kid when your friend from the farm's mom sends you home with a dozen eggs and you didn't know eggs came in brown.
Cameron, this is great. Brown eggs taste the same, by the way. My best friend didn't know that either.

Matilda, Kansas (I'm a grandma!): You know you were a farm kid when you're 71 years old, living in town, and you still wake up at five and wonder who's doing the chores.
My grandpa read this and said "Every morning." Then he went outside.

Lee, North Dakota: You know you're a farm kid when your dad's idea of a family vacation is driving to look at somebody else's crops.
[Curtis: We did that in July. It was two days.]

Ed, Iowa: You know you're a farm kid when every jacket you own came free from a seed company, and so did every cap. I'm 54 and I've never bought a cap.

Jo, Colorado: You know you're a farm kid when "is it going to rain?" is the first thing anybody says on the phone, before hello.

Curtis, 10, our house: You know you're a farm kid when your sister makes a web page about it and doesn't let you be in charge of anything.
I let you have blue brackets!!
[Curtis: Brackets aren't in charge of anything.]
