Our Rides
The cars of the Dulce Vida Car Club, 1999

Home  ◆  1999 Shows & Trophies

Twenty-two members, twenty-two cars, in every stage from bare metal to trophy table. Eleven Impalas, because that's what a lowrider is to most people, and the rest of us drive what we love. All paint by Cleveland unless it says otherwise.

The Impalas

1964 Impala hardtop · Cleveland Cortes
Candy brandywine over a gold base, 100-spoke wires, two pumps and six batteries. The girls named it "Mi Familia" and painted the name on the trunk lid themselves, with a little help.

1964 Impala SS hardtop · Eric Alvarado
The club's hop car. Candy tangerine, a reinforced frame, and a trunk that's nothing but batteries. Best Hydraulics in Salinas. Don't park next to it.

1964 Impala convertible · Ronald Altamirano
Our elder statesman's car: pearl white, white top, red interior, and a continental kit. Ronald has owned it since 1971, longer than some of our members have been alive.

1963 Impala hardtop · Gregory Vazquez
Candy blue with silver flake and gold leaf on the roof. Best Paint at the spring show in Salinas. A founder's car, and Greg still waxes it every Saturday, twelve years on.

1963 Impala hardtop · Stephen Medina
Root beer brown, and the best interior in the club: button-tufted crushed velvet, sewn by his uncle, with a matching chain steering wheel. Two Best Interior trophies this year.

1963 Impala convertible · Joseph Arteaga
Original paint, Ermine White, never restored, just loved. Joseph is the only one of us who says the car looks best standing still at stock height.

1962 Impala hardtop · Bruce Llanos
Candy green over silver with Bruce's own pinstriping all over the trunk. A founder's car.

1962 Impala convertible · Sherri Marrero
Black cherry with a black top. Sherri bought it in pieces in 1993 and put it back together with her son. Lifted on four cylinders, front and back.

1962 Impala two-door · Timothy Rivera
In primer gray, for now. Engine's done, frame's wrapped, paint is booked for spring. Give him time.

1961 Impala "bubble top" · Larry Casarez
Turquoise and white, the roof that looks like a glass bubble, and whitewalls so clean you could eat off them. Larry organizes every show we go to, so he's always the last car parked.

1961 Impala convertible · Sammy Salguero
Candy red, white top, and the official sleigh of the Christmas toy drive cruise. Santa's favorite.

The Bomb

1951 Chevrolet Fleetline · Michael Estrada
The car that started the club. Black, with a sun visor, fender skirts, a spotlight on the driver's side and a tissue box in the back window, the old-school way. It sat under a tarp for six years. It will never sit again.

Monte Carlo, El Camino, Cutlasses and Regals

1979 Monte Carlo · Jeffrey Borrero
Two-tone, silver over burgundy, with a matching landau top. Jeffrey's daily driver, which means it's the cleanest daily driver in San Jose.

1984 El Camino · Timmy Moralez
Candy apple red, a hardwood bed with chrome strips, and a setup that lifts the bed side to side. People stop and stare at the gas station.

1987 Cutlass Supreme · Lisa Luevano
Pearl lavender with purple flake. Her own car, her own money, her own pumps. Ask her who did the wiring. (She did.)

1986 Cutlass Supreme · Margaret Alejo
Candy teal with silver flake and a white interior. Our club secretary, who has never missed a meeting and never lets us forget the minutes.

1985 Cutlass Supreme · Gregg Perez
Gold with brown pinstripes and gold-and-chrome wires. Simple and clean.

1984 Cutlass Supreme · Mark Thiel
Candy blue fading to silver, done by Mark himself in Cleveland's booth after six months of practice. Not bad, Mark. Not bad at all.

1987 Regal · Christopher Talavera
Black on black on black, with a white pinstripe and one pump. Mean and quiet.

1983 Regal · David Vera
Candy tangerine with a white vinyl top. David's daughter picked the color.

1982 Regal · Devin Gonzalez
Our youngest member's first car, and yes, the one with the cracked frame. Now wrapped, welded and back on the street. We all learn somehow.

1981 Regal · Kimberly Escamilla
Pink pearl with silver leaf and the cleanest engine bay in the club. Third place in the G-body class in Fresno.
