Music note Adrienne's LeAnn Rimes Page Music note

SHE WON TWO GRAMMYS!!!
Best New Artist AND Best Female Country Vocal Performance!!
And she's 14. Like ME.

Hi!!! My name is Adrienne and I'm 14 and I'm a freshman in Texas. I sing alto in my church choir and in the choir at school. I made this page because LeAnn Rimes is my favorite singer in the whole world, and when I first heard "Blue" on the radio last summer I had to pull over. Just kidding, I can't drive yet. But my mom pulled over, because I was screaming.

THE GRAMMYS

NEW! Wednesday, February 26, 1997. I stayed up to watch the whole thing even though it was a school night. My mom said OK because "this is history." (She was right!)

  • Best New Artist: LeAnn Rimes!!! She's the YOUNGEST PERSON EVER to win Best New Artist. She beat Jewel and No Doubt! I screamed so loud my little brother Ronnie came out of his room and asked if somebody died.
  • Best Female Country Vocal Performance: "Blue"!! Her first big song and it won a Grammy.
  • And the man who wrote "Blue," Bill Mack, won Best Country Song for it. That made me cry a little bit, because he waited a really long time for somebody to sing it right.

She looked SO pretty. I taped it, so I can watch her part as many times as I want. (So far: eleven.)

LeANN'S STORY

Born: August 28, 1982, in Jackson, Mississippi
Grew up: in Texas, near Dallas (a Texas girl, YAY!)
Sign: Virgo

She started singing when she was really little and was in talent contests and musicals when she was still in elementary school. She was even on Star Search as a kid. She used to sing the national anthem before Dallas Cowboys games, which is something I would faint doing.

"Blue" was written a long time ago by Bill Mack, who is a DJ in Fort Worth, and the story is he wrote it for Patsy Cline, but she died before she could record it. So it waited all those years, and then LeAnn sang it. It came out as a single last summer and the album Blue came out in July, and it went to number one on the country album chart. Everybody compares her to Patsy Cline. My grandma has every Patsy Cline record and she says LeAnn is "the real thing," which is the biggest compliment Grandma gives anybody.

MY FAVORITE SONGS
(all from the Blue album)
1. Blue — The part where her voice breaks up high, like yodeling but prettier. I practice it every day. I'm not there yet.
2. One Way Ticket (Because I Can) — The best song to sing in the car with all the windows down.
3. Hurt Me — So sad. She sounds like a grown-up in this one.
4. Cattle Call — She sings it with Eddy Arnold, who sang it back in the old days. My grandpa says that's a passing of the torch.
5. My Baby — Fun and bouncy. Good for dancing in your room.
6. Talk to Me — I like the slow ones the best, I think.
7. Fade to Blue — Another blue song! She's the Queen of Blue.

ME AND MY SINGING

I've been in the choir at church since I was nine. Our director is Mrs. Sanborn, and she says I have a "good, true alto," and she gave me my first solo last Christmas, one verse of "O Little Town of Bethlehem." My knees were shaking the whole time but my voice wasn't. My friends Sheena and Brittany are in choir with me and they both sing soprano, so they get all the melodies. Altos get the harmony. Mrs. Sanborn says harmony is harder and that's why she gives it to us.

Last summer I entered the talent show at the county fair. I sang "Blue" (of course) with a tape for the music, and I tried the high part, and it mostly worked! I came in third. First place was a girl who twirled two batons that were on fire, and second was a boy who did rope tricks, so I don't feel too bad. Next summer I'm going to try again.

My mom says if I keep practicing I can take voice lessons next year. I want to be a singer when I grow up. Or a music teacher. Or both!!
