Pumpkins and mums, and still no frost. That's me in my barn jacket with one of the pie pumpkins. The sunflowers along the back have bowed their heads, the tomato vines are ragged and down to the last green ones, and the maple is starting to drop leaves on everything. The zinnias don't know it's fall and haven't been told.

Two pots of mums on the back step, a rust and a gold. I buy them every September, and every September I say I'll plant them in the ground so they come back, and I never do.

Our first frost usually comes around the end of the month, so every nice Saturday now is a bonus. When the frost warning comes I'll be out with the old bedsheets over the tomatoes, and after that I'll pick everything that's left and ripen it in newspaper in the basement. Jimmie took this one.
