DAY 1 - Wednesday, July 3
I bought Sea-Monkeys at the drugstore with my OWN allowance! They come in a kit with a tank and 3 packets and a tiny spoon. Me and Mom filled the tank with water up to the line. Then I put in packet #1. It's called WATER PURIFIER. You have to wait 24 hours so the water gets ready for them. It's like getting the nursery ready before the baby comes, Mom says. Waiting is hard!!! |
DAY 2 - Thursday, July 4
FOURTH OF JULY!!! This morning I put in packet #2. It's called INSTANT LIVE EGGS. And they WERE!!! Right away there were TINY SPECKS swimming around!!! They are so so so so small. You have to look really close. They were born on the 4th of July so they are American. We went to see fireworks tonight and I told them about it when we got home. |
DAY 3 - Friday, July 5
I looked at them with Dad's magnifying glass. I counted 23 specks but they keep moving so maybe I counted some twice. They swim in little jerks like they're hopping. |
DAY 5 - Sunday, July 7
FIRST FEEDING DAY! Packet #3 is GROWTH FOOD. You use the little spoon, the small end, and you only give them a tiny bit. Mom read the directions and you don't feed them every day, only every few days, or the water gets yucky. I asked if they would be hungry. Mom said they're fine. I named the first two today: SPECK and SPARKY. |
DAY 7 - Tuesday, July 9
Mom showed me how to give them air. You put a straw in the water and blow REALLY gently so it makes little bubbles. Not too hard or they go flying. I do it every morning now before cartoons. They're getting bigger!! You can see them without the magnifying glass now. |
DAY 8 - Wednesday, July 10
We went to the beach all day. I told the Sea-Monkeys that's where their cousins live. I don't know if that's true. When I got home I checked on them right away and they were all fine. |
DAY 10 - Friday, July 12
You can see their TAILS now! And little legs that wiggle all the time. I named 4 more: BUBBLES, ZIPPY, FIRECRACKER (because of the 4th of July) and TWINKLE. |
DAY 11 - Saturday, July 13
My best friend Crystal came over to see them. She said they are the coolest pets she ever saw and she is going to ask for some for her birthday. I let her name one. She named it CRYSTAL. Of course. |
DAY 12 - Sunday, July 14
Feeding day again. Small end of the spoon! I'm getting really good at it. |
DAY 14 - Tuesday, July 16
One of them is WAY bigger than the others. I named him JUMBO. My little brother Taylor (he's 4) wanted to put his finger in the tank to pet them. NO TAYLOR. Now the tank lives on top of the bookshelf where he can't reach. |
DAY 15 - Wednesday, July 17
I saw two of them swimming together, stuck side by side. Mom says they're just being friends. I named them PEANUT and BUTTER. |
DAY 17 - Friday, July 19
The Olympics started tonight in Atlanta! We watched the opening on TV. Muhammad Ali lit the torch and Dad got kind of quiet. I held the tank up so my Sea-Monkeys could see the TV too. I think Zippy should be in the swimming race. He is the fastest. |
DAY 18 - Saturday, July 20
I named 4 more! WIGGLES, PRINCESS, PEPPER and DOT. That makes 14!!! Feeding day too. |
 DAY 19 - Sunday, July 21
They are getting so BIG. Jumbo is almost as long as my pinky fingernail. I sat and watched them for a whole hour today and counted 14 for sure, one for every name. On Tuesday I go to my Grandma's house for two whole weeks! Mom promised she will feed them and give them air every day. (SMALL END OF THE SPOON, MOM!!!) |
