1999 TOURNAMENT RESULTS back home · meet the team |
| At these tournaments teams are put into divisions by their seed times, and each division races a round robin. Every race is the best three out of five heats. Times are in seconds, for all four dogs, and include any reruns after a fault, which is why a heat with a fault is always slow. |

Portland, March: First tournament of the year, and everybody was rusty, dogs and people. Three early passes on Saturday alone, two of them mine. Zip thinks the green light is a suggestion. Puyallup, April: Cleaner! Lost the division final to a team of four Border Collies who looked bored the whole time. Bellingham, June: WE WON OUR DIVISION. Pip's box turns were perfect all weekend and Tess ran the anchor leg like she was on fire. Ribbons for everybody, including Marie. Spokane, July: Our first time in Division 2, and Diesel's first tournament ever. He ran six heats as an alternate on Sunday, all clean, and then lay down in his crate and slept for the whole drive home. Saturday afternoon was blazing hot, so we cut the warm-up sprints short and kept everybody in the shade with wet towels between races. Eugene, August: 21.58! Zip, Pip, Moose and Tess, four clean passes, Saturday afternoon. Vicki cried. I may also have cried. |

We won 19 heats and lost 15 over the weekend, and we handed Bark Side of the Moon their only loss of the tournament in race 5, which came down to the fifth heat, a 21.74, our second-best time ever. Tess caught their anchor dog about two jumps from home. The whole building was screaming. I have never been so proud of four animals in my life. Three early passes cost us three heats, two of them in races we ended up losing, so you know what we're practicing on Thursday nights in October. Diesel is learning, Zip should know better, and Moose's was honestly Jim's fault, which Jim admits. |
