Msg #1 of 14 From: Night Heron Date: 04/01/96 Subj: Lights out
I read your notice three times and cried twice. Seven years, Francisco. You kept a light on for a lot of us who didn't have anyplace else to talk at three in the morning. I'll organize the GT. You just show up. And save me a copy of that archive.
Msg #2 of 14 From: Captain Bligh Date: 04/02/96 Subj: TW game 14
I was maybe two weeks from taking the whole galaxy in game 14. Who was ahead in credits when you pulled the plug? Put the standings up!! Also thank you for everything, I'm serious. I learned to type on your board.
Msg #3 of 14 From: Spoonbill Date: 04/09/96 Subj: thanks
Thank you for letting a twelve-year-old hang around the sysop chat asking dumb questions. Half of what I know about computers I learned on the Lighthouse, and the other half I learned fixing the door menu after I broke it. I still have the ANSI lighthouse on a floppy in my desk drawer.
Msg #4 of 14 From: Whooping Crane Date: 05/20/96 Subj: Greetings from an old bird
My grandson is home on leave and showed me how to find your page on the World Wide Web. It is a marvel, but nobody on it argues about redfish with any sense. You ran a fine board, young man. My thanks to your wife for her patience.
Msg #5 of 14 From: Red Snapper Date: 08/12/96 Subj: LORD scores
Twenty-three dragons. I want it in writing. When are the final scores going up?
Msg #6 of 14 From: Tidewater Date: 12/26/96 Subj: Merry Christmas, boss
Are the modems still in the closet? Mine is. My kids got a computer with a 33.6 in it for Christmas and they think it's the fastest thing ever made. I didn't have the heart to tell them we used to run a whole board on less. Give Doris my best.
Msg #7 of 14 From: Gulf Breeze Date: 03/31/97 Subj: One year ago tonight
Opening night to closing night. I was there for both. I dialed the old number tonight out of habit and got a lady who was very nice about it. Miss you all.
Msg #8 of 14 From: Shrimp Boat Date: 07/15/97 Subj: (no subject)
Found my old upload list in a box. 1,140, and I'm still proud of it. Lightkeeper, if you ever want those files on a CD I can burn you one now. Times change.
Msg #9 of 14 From: Dune Buggy Date: 11/02/97 Subj: 6:01
I still wake up at 6:01 sometimes and reach for the keyboard. Nothing to call. Two thousand nine hundred and sixty-one times, and I'd do every one of them again.
Msg #10 of 14 From: Buckeye Sysop Date: 03/14/98 Subj: From another old lighthouse keeper
Found your page on AltaVista. I ran a three-line board near Dayton, Ohio, from 1988 and shut it down in April of '96, a month after you, for every reason you gave. Reading your page was like reading my own. Best of luck to you, sir.
Msg #11 of 14 From: Red Snapper Date: 09/05/98 Subj: re: LORD scores
Still waiting.
Msg #12 of 14 From: Sand Dollar Date: 02/20/99 Subj: The last caller checks in
I was the last one on, and I've never told anybody what I typed in the chat window that night, and I won't now. But I think about the Lighthouse every time my Internet connection drops, which is often. Is anyone still out there?
Msg #13 of 14 From: Night Heron Date: 08/24/99 Subj: We're fine
For anyone who still checks this page: Hurricane Bret came ashore south of us on Sunday down in Kenedy County, and Corpus got off with wind and rain. Everyone from COASTAL I could reach is fine. Francisco, I never did get that GT organized. Pizza, this fall? I'll bring pie.
Msg #14 of 14 From: Spoonbill Date: 09/19/99 Subj: grown up now
Graduated in May and I'm writing software in Austin, mostly fixing other people's two-digit years before New Year's. My boss asked where I learned to fix things at three in the morning. I told him about you. Still hoping for that archive, and Red Snapper is still hoping for his scores.
