My First Fifty
from the spiral notebook on the workbench

These are the first fifty paintings I finished, from March 1993, the month I turned sixty, to August 1994. I copied them out of my notebook just the way I wrote them down, with the titles I gave them and the date I signed each one. Most of them I painted along with a tape of the program, so they are really his paintings done by my hand. A few are my own idea, and you can tell which ones, because they're the ones with something wrong with them.

If you're just starting out and your first one looks like a sand pile, read Number 1 and then read Number 50.
