Gargoyles fan fiction, by Megan Stewart G and PG · set between the episodes · the clan as it was Welcome to my rookery. I'm Megan. I'm 18, I'm a freshman at a state university in Ohio (undecided, leaning toward English, my parents are leaning toward anything with a job at the end of it), and I have been writing Gargoyles stories since I was fourteen and watched "Awakening" on a sick day home from school. I never got over it. If you followed me here from my old page, hi, and thank you! The old page lived on my parents' AOL account, and I left it behind with my bedroom in August. I'm moving the stories over one at a time and tidying them as I go. Some of them I wrote in ninth grade and, wow, they need it. Hudson does not need to say "lad" eleven times in one paragraph. I have fixed this. The little knight up top is standing in for a gargoyle. I couldn't find a gargoyle picture anywhere that wasn't somebody else's, so he's on guard duty until I learn to draw one. He's from the right century, at least. What Was Gargoyles?Gargoyles was an animated series from Disney that started in the fall of 1994 and ran through 1996. It was on weekday afternoons, so a lot of people think it was a little kids' cartoon. It wasn't. It had a story that kept going from one episode to the next, real villains with real reasons, Shakespeare (seriously), and characters who changed. Here's the beginning. In the tenth century, a clan of gargoyles guards Castle Wyvern, high on a cliff in Scotland. Gargoyles are alive at night and turn to stone during the day, and the humans they protect mostly don't trust them. The clan is betrayed, most of them are destroyed, and the few survivors are put under a spell to sleep in stone until the castle rises above the clouds. A thousand years later, a billionaire named David Xanatos buys the castle and has it moved, stone by stone, to the top of his skyscraper in Manhattan. The castle rises above the clouds. The gargoyles wake up in 1994 in a city they don't understand, and one NYPD detective decides to help them anyway. After the two real seasons there was a third, on Saturday mornings, called The Goliath Chronicles. I don't count it, and neither do a lot of fans. It isn't a grudge. It just doesn't feel like the same show to me, so nothing on this page happens in it or after it.
Ratings and Spoilers
Who's Who in the Clan For anybody new, or anybody who wandered in from a search engine looking for pictures of cathedrals: Goliath — The leader. Huge, lavender, wings like a cape, and he takes absolutely everything seriously, which is why I love him. He reads. He broods. He would die for any one of them. Hudson — The old one, who led the clan before Goliath and handed it over. Bad eye, old sword, good advice, and a deep attachment to the television set. He is my favorite and I will not be taking questions. Brooklyn — Red, with the white hair and the beak, and the one most likely to jump off something first and think second. He's going to make a great leader someday, once he learns to stand still. Lexington — The smallest, the quickest, and the one who figured out computers in about a week. His wings are joined to his arms, so he glides like a flying squirrel. Broadway — The big one, who loves food and old movies and learned to read in this century. Gentler than he looks. Bronx — The clan's gargoyle beast. He's basically a big blue dog who turns to stone. Best boy. Detective Elisa Maza — NYPD. The first human in a thousand years to look at the clan and see people. She found them a home in the old clock tower and has been covering for them ever since. David Xanatos — The billionaire who brought the castle to Manhattan. Charming, patient, and always three plans ahead. Not a friend, whatever he says. Demona — A gargoyle from the old clan, Goliath's mate a thousand years ago, who survived the long way, by living through every one of those years, and came out of it hating humans. She is the saddest character on the show and I will defend that opinion forever. The Stories
Thank you to Owlwing, who has beta-read everything I've written since 1996 and still answers my e-mails at two in the morning, and to my roommate Nicole, who has now seen "Awakening" all the way through and says she gets it.
