ONLY 3 DAYS until the last new Seinfeld ever. Thursday night, May 14, 1998, on NBC. |
Hi! I'm Alison. I'm 29, I'm a paralegal at a law firm on Long Island, and I've been watching since 1991, back in my college apartment with the rabbit ears. For years now my Thursday nights have belonged to four people in Manhattan who never do anything. On December 26, the day after Christmas, Jerry announced that this season would be the last one. My mother called to make sure I was all right. I was not all right. I made this page in January to get it out of my system. As you can see, it didn't work.
Last Thursday was the last regular episode, and I taped it. Now there's just the big one, and you can't turn on the TV or open a newspaper or a magazine this week without somebody talking about it. Nothing on television has been this big all spring. Here's everything.
|
[ The Four of Them ]
[ My Top Ten ]
[ Office Theories ]
[ The Party |
JERRY · A stand-up comedian with a nice apartment on the Upper West Side, a box of cereal for every occasion, and a long list of women he stopped seeing for the tiniest reasons. He's the calm one, which tells you everything you need to know about the other three.
GEORGE · Jerry's oldest friend. A champion liar with the worst luck in New York, and the most nervous man on television. Every single one of us knows a George. Jason Alexander deserves a shelf full of Emmys.
ELAINE · Jerry's ex-girlfriend and the sharpest of the four, which isn't saying much. Works for the J. Peterman catalog. Does not suffer fools, and is surrounded by them. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the best.
KRAMER · Lives across the hall, never knocks, always has a scheme. Every time he comes flying through that door the studio audience claps, and so do I, at home, by myself. Michael Richards.
AND · Newman, the mailman down the hall. George's parents, Frank and Estelle, who are my parents with the volume turned up. Jerry's folks down in Florida. And nine years of the people the four of them dated, dumped, insulted and lied to.
Everybody at work agrees that I'm an Elaine. I've decided to take it as a compliment.
Nine seasons since 1989 and I had to pick ten. This took me most of February. Larry David, who made the show with Jerry, left after the seventh season, and I'll admit the last two have felt a little different. Different is still better than anything else on.
Honorable mention: the reruns, which I tape at night and watch in the morning while I do my hair. I've seen some of them twelve times. I'll see them twelve more.
Nobody knows how it ends. Supposedly they're keeping the script locked up and nobody outside the show has read it. So everybody at my office has a theory, and here they are, for the record. After Thursday we'll find out who was right.
Thursday night at my apartment. Doors open at 7:30. If you aren't on the couch by the time it starts, you're watching through the window.
| WHO | IS BRINGING |
| Victoria | Black-and-white cookies from the bakery by her train station. A dozen. Two dozen. |
| Joseph | His 27-inch TV, because my 19-inch is not big enough for history. |
| April | Junior Mints, and a Pez dispenser for everybody. |
| Ralph | Soda and ice. Ralph is not allowed to cook anymore. He knows why. |
| Daryl | A marble rye. We will all be keeping an eye on it. |
| Me | The big salad, the couch, and two VCRs taping at once in case one of them dies. Brand-new tapes, SP speed, no exceptions. |
House rules:
I'm writing it Thursday night as soon as everybody goes home, and it'll be up first thing Friday morning, May 15. My grade, the best moments, the worst ones, and whether they got it right. Check back! |
E-mail me and I'll add you to the list.
| August 21, 1999 · Brian, Valley Stream, New York I watch the reruns every single night and I still think about that last one. Did you ever write your review? Is anybody here? |
| February 3, 1999 · Olivia, Scranton, Pennsylvania Your top ten is great (The Rye!!!). So what did you think of the finale? Your review says coming Friday. Which Friday? |
| November 12, 1998 · Steve, Hicksville, New York Alison, Thursday nights aren't the same. Please post your review. Did the party happen? Who ate the marble rye? And which one of your office theories was closest? |
| May 13, 1998 · April Found the Pez dispensers at the drugstore, six of them. See you tomorrow night!!! |

This is an unofficial fan page made by one fan on Long Island.
Seinfeld belongs to the people who make it. I just can't stop watching it.
