Buffy the Vampire Slayer, after graduation, before college

COUNTDOWN TO TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1999
10
days until season four at 8:00 and Angel at 9:00 on the WB
(I change this number by hand every morning before my 9 a.m. class. That's commitment.)

Hello and welcome. I'm Tess Vallejo, a sophomore at a state school in California, and I have watched every single episode of Buffy since the first one in March 1997, most of them on the same beat-up T-120 tape at SP speed so they look nice. This page is where I put my thoughts while I wait out the longest summer of my life. My roommate says I talk about Sunnydale like it's my hometown. It sort of is.

Spoiler warning: everything below assumes you've seen all of season three. If you haven't, go find somebody with tapes.

Where Everybody Is Now

Buffy	Graduated, which is more than you can say for the school building. Headed to UC Sunnydale, where hopefully the professors are human.
Willow	Could have gone anywhere. Chose to stay and fight the good fight. Still with Oz, who also graduated (finally).
Xander	Skipping college to drive around the country. My money says he doesn't get far.
Giles	Fired by the Council back in January, Watcher anyway. The library is gone, so what does a librarian do now? I'm honestly worried about him.
Cordelia	Her family lost everything, no college money, and she's off to Los Angeles. Which works out, because so is...
Angel	Walked away so she could have a normal life. I understand it. I hate it. Now he gets his own show.
Faith	In a coma. The best villain the show has had, because she didn't start out as one.

Season Three: My Seven
Not a full guide, just the ones I'd hand a stranger to convert them.

Band Candy – the grown-ups turn into teenagers and Giles is suddenly terrifyingly cool. I laughed so hard I missed things.

Amends – Christmas in Sunnydale. Yes, the ending is a little much. I cried anyway.

The Wish – the best what-if hour of TV I've ever seen. Proof that this town needs Buffy.

Helpless – Buffy's eighteenth birthday. Hard to watch, and it made me furious at the Council for weeks.

The Zeppo – the world nearly ends in the background while Xander has the strangest night of his life. Brilliant idea.

Doppelgangland – Alyson Hannigan playing two Willows at once. She should get an award. Several.

Earshot – the WB held it back last spring after the shootings in Colorado, and I understood why. It finally aired this past Tuesday, and it was worth the wait: sad, funny, and kind.

Honorable mention to The Prom, for the moment the class thanks Buffy. My roommate and I were both a mess. (We'd also waited all summer for the second part of Graduation Day, which got pushed from May to July. Worth it.)

What We Know About October

Buffy, season four: college! Buffy and Willow at UC Sunnydale, Oz in the dorms somewhere with his band, Xander presumably back from his big trip. The rumor mill says Spike comes back to town, which would be fine by me.

Angel: Angel in Los Angeles, helping people in trouble. Cordelia is going with him, plus a new character named Doyle, played by Glenn Quinn, who was Mark on Roseanne. Buffy fans get two hours in a row every Tuesday. My Tuesday night class is dropped. Priorities.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel belong to Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy and 20th Century Fox Television, and air on the WB. I own a lot of VHS tapes and nothing else.
