Welcome to Starlight Lanes on the web! We are a 16-lane bowling center, family owned since my folks opened the doors in 1961 with eight lanes and a hand-cranked cash register. We added the other eight lanes in 1974 and last summer we put in brand new automatic scoring on every lane, so you never have to argue with your brother-in-law about who forgot to add the spare. The computer does it for you and puts it up on the overhead monitor. (It also draws a little cartoon when you get a strike. The kids love it. Some of the league bowlers pretend they don't.)

Whether you're a 200-average league bowler or you haven't picked up a ball since your sixth-grade field trip, come on down. We've got bumpers for the little ones, a snack bar with the best chili dogs in town, and a Saturday night Cosmic Bowling party that has to be seen to be believed.

OPEN BOWLING PRICES
Per game, per person$2.25
Shoe rental$1.50
Seniors (60+) and kids 12 and under, weekdays before 5 pm$1.75
Bumpers for the little onesFree, just ask
Lanes are first-come, first-served during open bowling. On Friday and Saturday nights there can be a wait; put your name on the list at the front counter and grab a booth in the snack bar. Open bowling is not available during league play (see the league schedule below for which lanes are busy when).

Rocket COSMIC BOWLING Rocket
Every Saturday Night, 10 pm to 1 am
We turn off the house lights, turn on the black lights, crank up the music and the fog machine, and the pins and lanes glow in the dark. Wear white and you'll glow too.

$12 per person for two hours of bowling, shoes included.
Ages 16 and up after 11 pm unless you're with a parent. Reserve a lane ahead if you've got a group of six or more, because Cosmic sells out most Saturdays in the fall.

FALL 1999 LEAGUE SCHEDULE

Sunday7:00 pmSunday Night Church League1-10
League fees are set by each league (most are $10 to $12 a week including lineage and prize fund). All our adult leagues are sanctioned. If you've never bowled in a league, the Friday Night Fun League is the place to start: no-tap means nine pins counts as a strike, and nobody keeps track of anything except who's buying the pitcher. Ask at the counter and we'll put you on a team that needs a bowler.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES
$8 per child gets you: two games of bowling with bumpers, shoe rental, a slice of pizza and a soda for each kid, paper plates and cups, a reserved table in the party room for an hour and a half, and a Starlight Lanes pencil and scorecard souvenir for everyone. You bring the cake. Minimum of six kids. Parents bowl free with the birthday group if there's room on the lane.

Parties are Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1 to 5 pm. We book up about three weeks out in the fall, so please e-mail us or stop in early. Our automatic scoring lets us put the birthday kid's name up on the monitor, which is a bigger hit than the pizza.

Popcorn THE SNACK BAR
Open whenever the lanes are. Chili dogs, cheeseburgers, pizza by the slice or the pie, nachos, fries, onion rings, popcorn, soft-serve ice cream, pop, coffee, and pitchers of beer for the grown-ups (ID required, no exceptions, and nobody under 21 in the lounge area after 9). The chili is my mother's recipe and no, we won't give it out. Pitcher-and-a-pizza special on league nights, $9.50.

PRO SHOP
We carry balls, bags, shoes, wrist supports, tape and towels, and we sell a good selection of used balls for beginners starting around $20. Ball drilling by appointment: we'll measure your hand and drill a ball fitted to you, which makes more difference to your game than any amount of practice with a house ball. Plugging and re-drilling of your old ball is available too. Call at the counter or send us an e-mail to set up a time; drilling is usually done the same week.

HOURS
Monday - Thursday: 9 am to 11 pm
Friday: 9 am to 1 am
Saturday: 9 am to 1 am (Cosmic Bowling 10 pm - 1 am)
Sunday: Noon to 10 pm

Closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Open New Year's Eve with a midnight party (more about that in November, assuming the scoring computers survive the year 2000 -- the company that installed them says they will, and we have their letter on file behind the counter).

We're on Route 9 across from the drive-in, in the same building we've been in since 1961. Look for the big star on the sign. Phone: (555) 555-0142.

ABOUT US
My parents built Starlight Lanes in 1961 when the shopping plaza went in and Dad decided the town needed somewhere to go on a Friday night besides the drive-in. Eight lanes, wooden ball returns, a jukebox, and Mom running the counter with a baby (me) in a bassinet behind it. I've been here ever since. My wife Rita has run the snack bar since 1982, and our kids grew up in the nursery in the party room and now work here on weekends. Three generations under one roof, and some of our league bowlers have been coming just as long. Our Monday Men's Classic has two original members from the 1961 season, still bowling every week.

We're not the fanciest center in the county, but the lanes are oiled every morning, the shoes are sprayed, the pinsetters are looked after by someone who actually knows how, and we know most of you by name. Thanks for 38 years. Come see us.
