OUR WANT LIST
If you have any of these, we will be your best friends.
back to Fiesta Forever | Vintage or New? How to Tell

Every collector has a list. Ours lives on the refrigerator door under a magnet shaped like a taco, and whoever finds something on it gets to pick the restaurant for a month. Here it is, in order of how much we want it. Condition matters to us: no cracks, no chips we can feel with a fingernail, no crazing, no glue.

 THE OLD STUFF

# WHAT WHY
1 Anything in medium green The color from 1959 to the end of the old line, and the hardest of all to find. We own zero pieces. A teacup. A saucer. One salt shaker. We are not proud. — S.
2 The lid to our gray sugar bowl Lost in the Northridge earthquake. The bowl has been sitting on the shelf with no hat for five years. It's embarrassing for everyone. — A.
3 An ivory teacup Also lost in the quake. The saucer is lonely. — A.
4 A pair of red tripod candleholders For the top shelf, one on each side of the carafe. Shelf only, of course. — S.
5 A relish tray with all its inserts The round tray with the center piece and the wedges around it. Mixed colors are fine. Mixed colors are better. — A.
6 A 12-inch vase, any of the first six colors We have the 8-inch in cobalt. We'd like its big sister. — S.
7 A forest green teapot Because Frances takes her tea at our house now, and she deserves better than the kettle. — S.
8 A covered onion soup bowl, any color Made only in the first few years, and scarce in every color. We've read about the turquoise one. We'll never see one, and we've made our peace with that. Any other color, though. — A.

 THE NEW STUFF

9 Two periwinkle dinner plates Then we'll have periwinkle dinner plates for twelve, which means we can have twelve people for Christmas dinner, which Alan says is a threat. — S.
10 A lilac disk pitcher In 1994 we stood in a store in front of a lilac pitcher and Stephen said, "Lilac isn't a real Fiesta color," and we walked away. Lilac was gone the next year. Collectors want it badly now, and they pay accordingly. We have made a solemn vow never to discuss this again. — A.
(I said I was sorry. — S.)

 PLEASE DON'T SEND US
  • Yellow salt shakers. We have nine. Nobody needs nine.
  • Apricot. We tried. It isn't you, apricot, it's us.
  • Anything cracked, crazed, glued or "only a little chipped."
  • Other brands' dishes that "look just like Fiesta." We love you for thinking of us, but no.
 WILLING TO TRADE

We have some doubles we'd happily swap for anything on the list above: three of those yellow salt shakers, an old light green nappy (that's Fiesta for a serving bowl), two new cobalt mugs and a new rose platter. Write and tell us what you've got. We'll trade by mail, or meet you at a swap meet anywhere between Santa Barbara and San Diego. Stephen will be the one with the flashlight.

And yes, Alan has started looking at the online auctions. Pray for our checking account.
