The Court of the City
as it stands in the autumn of 1999

Welcome  †  The Court  †  House Rules  †  Fall Calendar

Everything below is in character. It's what any Kindred newly arrived in San Francisco would hear in their first week, true or not. Player names are never posted here. If you want to know who plays whom, come to game and find out the polite way.

The Prince holds court at Elysium on the second and fourth Friday of each month, in the rotunda of the Palace of Fine Arts, where the Keeper has arranged that no mortal will see or remember anything. Elysium is neutral ground. No violence, no feeding, no use of the Disciplines on another Kindred without leave. Those who break the peace of Elysium answer to the Sheriff.

The Officers of the Court

Prince William Sherrell, Ventrue
Prince of San Francisco since the spring of 1906. The story goes that he took the city the morning the ground shook and the fires started, while his predecessor was still looking for a way out of the smoke. He has never confirmed it. He has never denied it either. Courteous, cold and patient, and he remembers every favor ever owed him to the day.

Eugenia Crooms, Ventrue, Seneschal
The Prince's right hand, and the one who actually answers the mail. If you want an audience, you go through Eugenia. If you want it soon, you bring her something interesting.

Rosa Coan, Toreador, Keeper of Elysium
Keeps the peace of Elysium and the beauty of it. Under her the Palace has never been seen by a mortal after dark, which says a great deal about her and nothing reassuring about the mortals who tried.

Genevieve Tyler, Toreador, Harpy
Keeper of reputations, which is to say, the one who ruins them. Everyone wants Genevieve's good opinion and no one has it. Mind what you say in her hearing, and especially what you say about her shoes.

Guy Lopez, Brujah, Sheriff
Enforces the Prince's law, and enjoys it more than a Brujah should. Ex-longshoreman, still built like one. Fair, they say, in the way that a falling rock is fair.

The Primogen
The eldest of each of the seven clans of the Camarilla in the city, who advise the Prince and speak for their blood.

Johnnie Wurth, Brujah
Marched in every protest in this city since the forties and still shows up at a few, at night, in the back. Loud, loyal, and one bad night away from leading his clan out of the court entirely. The Prince knows it. So does Johnnie.

Ida Fannin, Gangrel
Comes to Elysium smelling of fog and eucalyptus, says three words a night, and leaves. Her clan holds the Presidio and the parks. Nobody goes into Golden Gate Park after midnight without asking Ida first.

Bertha Lemmons, Malkavian
Wears white gloves and a hat with a veil, and correctly predicted three of the last four disasters to befall the court. The fourth, she says, hasn't happened yet.

Wallace Lee, Nosferatu
Has not been seen at Elysium in person since 1989. Speaks through a messenger, by letter, or by voice from somewhere in the walls. Knows where every tunnel under the city goes, and who has been walking in them.

Alvina Hogle, Toreador
A painter who has had a studio on Russian Hill for seventy years and has not finished a canvas in fifty. Sponsors young artists, living and otherwise. Her parties are the only invitations in the city that the Prince himself accepts.

Jacquelyn Kopp, Tremere
Regent of the chantry on Nob Hill and the most polite person in the court, which should frighten you. She will help you with almost anything. She will also write it down.

John Barns, Ventrue
Speaks for the Ventrue at council, since the Prince cannot be both judge and advocate. A banker in life and very nearly one still. Owns, through some forty companies, a surprising amount of the waterfront.

Others of Note

Cathy Hardesty, Toreador
A neonate, Embraced in 1994, who sings in a club South of Market three nights a week and has already been in more trouble than most Kindred manage in a century. The Harpy has opinions about her. She has opinions about the Harpy.

Dennis Lewis, Malkavian
Rides the last streetcars of the night from end to end and claims the city speaks to him through the transfers. Nobody laughs about it anymore, ever since the night he warned the court about the warehouse fire.

Jeanne Thompson, Gangrel
Arrived from the Sierra last winter with a bad cough, which is a strange thing for a vampire to have, and a story about the mountains she won't tell twice. Ida Fannin has taken an interest in her. That's either very good for Jeanne or very bad.

Rumors heard at the last Elysium: that the Sheriff has been seen talking to an Anarch from across the Bay; that the Prince's last childe did not leave the city as he was told; that something old has been feeding on the night shift at the hospitals; and that the Harpy's shoes are, in fact, from a catalog. Believe what you like.

New arrivals present themselves to the Seneschal at their first Elysium. Failure to present yourself is noticed, and it is not forgiven quickly.
