When the credits are over, the game offers to save your finished game. Say yes. Load that save and you start Silent Hill over again in what the game calls Next Fear. It's the same town and the same story, with a few new things waiting for you. Some of what you get depends on which endings you've already seen, so if something below isn't showing up for you, it may be because you haven't gotten the ending that unlocks it yet. I'm not listing every location. Half the fun is finding them, and the other half is the look on Harry's face when you do. |
| What's new |
| Power tools | A chainsaw and a rock drill turn up in town that weren't there before. They're loud and slow and they make the streets a lot less frightening, which is either wonderful or a little sad, depending on your mood. |
| The Channeling Stone | A strange stone you can only find on a replay. Use it in the right spots around town and something happens. Use it in enough of the right spots and you get the UFO ending. I'm not telling you where. I spent two weekends finding them and I want you to have that too. |
| A ray gun | The Hyper Blaster. I'll leave it at that. If you've seen the UFO ending, you'll understand why there's a ray gun in a game like this. |
| Your ranking | Every time you finish, the results screen grades you with stars, based on things like how long you took, how often you saved, and how many things you killed. I've never gotten all the stars. My boyfriend says it's because I save too much. I say there's no such thing as saving too much in Silent Hill. |

Second time: go for the ending you didn't get. If you got Bad, save Cybil this time. Use the endings page as a checklist. Third time: do everything, Cybil and Kaufmann both, and get Good+. Read every note you skipped the first time. The story makes so much more sense when you know where it's going. There are things in the school I walked right past twice and only understood on my fifth game. After that: go hunting for the UFO. Take the power tools. Have fun with it. You've earned some fun. And one more time on a night when you're home alone, on Hard, with the lights off and the volume up, with no guide and no power tools. Just you and the flashlight and the radio. That's when you find out it can still get you. |
