A surprising number of my former students have found this page, which tells me either
that word gets around in Sheboygan or that they're all still afraid of pop quizzes.
Several of them have sent in puns. As promised, every one gets a grade and a comment in
red, same as always. No extra credit. No curve.
Paulette, class of '76, runs a flower shop in Plymouth:
"Valentine's week keeps me busy. The other fifty-one weeks, I'm just stemming the losses."
Grade: A. Nicely arranged. You always did bloom late.
|
Gretchen, class of '81, dental hygienist:
"I tell my patients I'm not there to judge them. I'm just there to pick."
Grade: B+. Cleanly delivered. Could use a little more bite.
|
Arnie, class of '72, mail carrier, twenty-six years on the same route:
"People ask me if I ever get tired of walking. I tell them it's all in how you address it."
Grade: A. First class. You still owe me a lab report from 1971.
|
Mitchell, class of '88, electrician:
"I used to be negative about wiring old houses. Now I'm positive, and mostly grounded."
Grade: A-. Watt a current event. Points off for not mentioning resistance.
|
Birgit, class of '69, retired nurse:
"Thirty-one years on the night shift and I never once ran out of patients."
Grade: B. A classic. Which in my grade book means somebody got there first.
|
Trevor, class of '94, now at the university in Madison:
"Mr. A, I'm taking organic chemistry this semester and I'm here to report that it is a lot
less natural than it sounds."
Grade: A. True, and not even a pun. Do your reading. I know you aren't.
|
Scott, class of '85, owns a tire shop:
"Business has its ups and downs, but lately we've been on a roll."
Grade: C. Tread lightly, Scott. This one was a little flat.
|
Lisette, class of '91, teaches second grade:
"My class made a volcano out of baking soda and vinegar, and I have never seen so much
enthusiasm erupt in one room."
Grade: A+. Correct chemistry AND a pun. I'm framing this one.
|
Class average: B+. Better than third hour in 1979, I'll tell you that.
If you had me for chemistry and you'd like to be graded in public, send your pun to
[email protected]. Put your class
year in the subject line so I can remember which seat you sat in.
