Atlanta has been to the Series three times in five years, and they've got Maddux and Glavine and Smoltz and Avery, which is about the best four starters anybody has had in a long time. Everybody said pitching beats hitting. We'll see. Here's every game, with my two cents.
| Game | Score and my notes |
|---|---|
| 1 Sat. Oct. 21 at Atlanta |
Braves 3, Indians 2 Greg Maddux threw a two-hitter. Kenny ran wild in the first inning and scored, and after that we couldn't touch him. Fred McGriff homered. That man is a machine. |
| 2 Sun. Oct. 22 at Atlanta |
Braves 4, Indians 3 Eddie hit a two-run homer in the second. Javy Lopez hit a two-run homer in the sixth, and then he picked Manny off first base. Glavine got the win. Two one-run games and we're down two. I didn't say a word all night. |
| 3 Tue. Oct. 24 at Jacobs Field |
Indians 7, Braves 6 (11 inn.) The first World Series game in Cleveland since 1954. It went eleven innings and Eddie Murray singled home the winning run. I was standing on the couch. Mary says I put a hole in the cushion. I say it was already there. |
| 4 Wed. Oct. 25 at Jacobs Field |
Braves 5, Indians 2 Steve Avery beat Ken Hill. Not our night. Moving on. |
| 5 Thu. Oct. 26 at Jacobs Field |
Indians 5, Braves 4 Albert hit a two-run homer in the first inning off Maddux and the place shook. Orel won it, Thome hit one out late, and Mesa saved it. Every pitch of the ninth inning I was holding Bobby's hand and he let me. STILL ALIVE. |
| 6 Sat. Oct. 28 at Atlanta |
TOMORROW NIGHT. Dennis Martinez vs. Tom Glavine. Dennis is 41 and he's been through everything. If anybody can go into that park and win, he can. |
| 7 Sun. Oct. 29 at Atlanta |
If we need it. We will. |
| Braves | 3 |
| Indians | 2 |
Four of the five games have been decided by one run. These two teams are about as even as you can get, whatever the papers in Atlanta say. We came back all year long. Ask Boston. Ask Seattle.
Cliff and I and a couple of the other guys from the garage are watching Game 6 at Cliff's place. He has the bigger TV and his wife makes the chili. I'll be back here Sunday morning one way or the other, and if it goes seven I'll be back here Monday morning with the best news of my life.
GO TRIBE!!!
