The Color Dungeon
only on Game Boy Color!!!   back to my main page

The DX game has a whole new dungeon that the old black and white Link's Awakening didn't have. It's called the Color Dungeon, and it only works if you play on a Game Boy Color. If you put the game in a regular Game Boy, you can't get in. That makes sense when you see it, because everything in there is about colors. You couldn't do it in black and white.

My little brother Spencer has a regular Game Boy (the gray one, it was our dad's) and he tried to get in, and he couldn't. Ha ha. Sorry Spencer.

How to get in

Go to the graveyard, the one with all the ghosts. You have to push the gravestones in the right order, and when you get it right, stairs open up.

I'm not going to tell you the order. Figuring it out is half the fun.

(Okay. My cousin told me the order. But you should TRY first. Then if you really can't do it, e-mail me and I'll tell you. I promise.)

Inside

It's not very long but it's tricky. The puzzles use colors, so you have to really look at the screen. Play it in a room with good light. I tried to do part of it in the car at night and I couldn't tell the colors apart under the street lights. My dad said that was my own fault.

When you get to the end there's a fairy, and she gives you a present. You get to pick ONE:

The Red Tunic
Your sword hits twice as hard. Monsters go down faster. This is for people who like to fight.
The Blue Tunic
Monsters only hurt you half as much. You're tougher. This is for people who are careful.

And then Link is wearing that color for the rest of the game! Not green anymore! It looks so cool.

I picked RED. Both times. I like to beat things fast. Spencer says when he gets a Game Boy Color he's going to pick blue because he always dies. That is true. He does always die.

The Photos

This is the other new thing in DX. There is a photo shop in Mabe Village, and the photographer is a mouse! After you go in his shop, he shows up at special times in the game and takes your picture. You can go back to the shop and look at all of them in the album.

There are 12 photos in all. I have 9. Some of them are really hard to get and some of them you only get if you do something at exactly the right time. I'm not going to spoil them because it's a surprise every time he pops out. My favorite one is SO funny. You'll know it when you see it.

If you have the Game Boy Printer you can print them out on sticker paper. I don't have the printer. It's on my Christmas list, right under a Pokemon Yellow. (Is that coming out? My cousin says October.)
