MEET THE CHARACTERS!!!
Pizza Cat, an orange striped cat in a red cap, waving and grinning PIZZA CAT
He is an orange tabby cat with stripes. He is a little bit chubby (that's from the pizza). He delivers pizza for the Pizza Palace on his skateboard and he fights crime in Cheesetown. His favorite pizza is pepperoni.
PIZZA CAT FACTS: His cap is RED. He never takes it off, not even to sleep. He can carry 10 pizza boxes at one time. Not 11. Somebody asked.
Anchovy, a little gray kitten in a blue cap that is much too big for him ANCHOVY
Pizza Cat's sidekick. He is a little gray kitten and his cap is too big because it's a grown-up cap. He is small but he is VERY brave. He is always hungry. He has his own skateboard. It is purple.
Anchovy was Alejandra's idea!!! She named him after the little fish you put on pizza (gross) but he is NOT gross.
Dr. Mousenstein, a white mouse in a lab coat, green goggles and a purple bow tie DR. MOUSENSTEIN
He is a white mouse and a scientist. He has a lab coat and goggles and a purple bow tie. He built the PEPPERONI VACUUM 3000 all by himself. Is he a bad guy??? You have to read Issue #1 to find out!!!
Chief Barker, a big brown dog in a blue police uniform and police hat, pointing CHIEF BARKER
He is the chief of police in Cheesetown. He is a big brown dog with floppy ears. He tries really really hard but he is always one step behind. He says FREEZE a lot.

ABOUT ME
Hi!!! My name is Kaitlin and I am 11. I'm in 6th grade. I have been drawing Pizza Cat since I was 9, but this is the first time he was ever on the Internet!!!

Pizza Cat is kind of based on our cat Butterscotch. Butterscotch is orange and chubby too. But he can't skateboard. And he doesn't like pizza, he likes tuna.

My best friend is Alejandra. She is 11 too. She helps me color and she thought up Anchovy. We are going to be cartoonists when we grow up and have our own comics in the newspaper.

My favorite pizza: plain cheese. (I know!!! Pizza Cat likes pepperoni. We are different people.)
My favorite comics: Calvin and Hobbes (my dad has all the books) and Garfield.
My favorite color: red, like Pizza Cat's cap.

pencil HOW I MAKE A PAGE
  1. I draw the boxes on notebook paper with a ruler.
  2. I draw everything in pencil first, then I go over it with black marker.
  3. I color it in with markers. Alejandra helps if it's a Friday.
  4. I don't write the words on the paper because my handwriting is messy (my dad says it's not messy it's "creative"). I write them on a different paper.
  5. My dad scans it at his work and types in the words on the computer. He does the sound effects too, but I tell him what colors!!!
  6. Then he puts it on the Internet on Saturday.
That's why the lines on the paper show. It's notebook paper. It's supposed to look like that.

RULES FOR DRAWING PIZZA CAT:
  1. His cap is RED.
  2. He has stripes.
  3. He is ORANGE, not yellow.
  4. Don't draw him without his cap. He never takes it off.
  5. Anchovy's cap is blue and it's too big. That's on purpose.

A note from Kaitlin's dad: Kaitlin draws every page at the kitchen table, and Alejandra comes over on Fridays to help with the coloring. I scan the pages at my office on my lunch hour and type in the words, since I'm the only one who can read her handwriting. (She disagrees.) Her mom and I read her e-mail first, so please keep it friendly. Thank you to everyone who wrote to her this summer. She reads every letter at least twice.
