Megan age 14, Ohio, 9/12/99 Hi Vanessa! I'm the one who went to the NAAF conference this summer! I have universalis since I was nine. It was seriously the best week of my life. There were girls our age and little kids and grown-ups and one guy who's a firefighter, and nobody stared at anybody all week. We went to a dance and half the girls wore wigs and half didn't and it didn't matter AT ALL. You HAVE to go. Keep saving!! Your hat page is the funniest one I've seen. ~ I'm at $86 now!! Next summer for sure. ~V

Cathy a mom in Oregon, 9/3/99 Dear Vanessa, my daughter is six and she was just diagnosed in July. She has three patches and she cries when I brush her hair. I printed out your page and read it to her, the lunch line part and Hat Day, and she said "I want a lucky hat too." We went to the store the next day and she picked out a purple one with a flower. Thank you for being so brave and so funny. You helped a mother more than you know. ~ Tell her hi from me!! Purple is the best color for a lucky hat. Tell her it's NOT her fault and she didn't do anything wrong. ~V

I thought you'd be mad at wig girls but then I read your FAQ and you said whatever you want is okay and that made me happy. Hats and wigs unite!!! lol ~ HATS AND WIGS UNITE!!! ~V

Kristen 13, Michigan, 7/30/99 I had patches for two years and this spring it grew back almost all the way. I know that doesn't happen for everybody. I just wanted to say it CAN happen, so don't give up hoping, but also your hats are really cute and you should keep them even if it grows back. Mine came in curly!! It was straight before! So weird. ~ CURLY!!! That's so cool. I'm keeping the hats no matter what. ~V

Brittany age 11, Texas, 6/19/99 hi. i have universalis so i don't have eyebrows and my mom draws them on for me with a pencil and sometimes one is higher than the other one and i look surprised. at my school a girl said i looked like an alien and i told her aliens are cool. was that ok to say? i like your page a lot. my favorite hat is the jester one. ~ That was the BEST thing to say. Aliens ARE cool. You are cool. ~V

Amanda 12, Pennsylvania, 4/11/99 Hi Vanessa!!! I'm 12 and I have alopecia areata, I have a big patch on the side and I cover it with headbands. I'm starting junior high in the fall and I'm SO scared. Your page made me feel better. My grandma taught me to crochet and I want to make you a hat. Can I??? What's your favorite color? ~ UPDATE: She made it!!! Rainbow beret, hat #29.
