The Meade Family Movie Guide
Can the kids watch it? I'll tell you.

[ The Reviews ] [ Awards I've Won ] [ Write to Larry ]

Welcome, folks! I'm Larry Meade. I'm 47, I run the parts counter at a farm equipment dealership in Indiana, and on Saturday afternoons you'll find me at the movies with my wife Elaine and our two, Chelsea (11) and Davon (9). Every family I know has the same question on a Friday night: can we take the kids to that, or not? The ratings only tell you so much. So I started writing down what's actually IN the movies we see, for the folks at church, and last Thanksgiving my nephew put it on the Internet for me.

Then something happened that I never expected. People started giving me awards. Me! A guy who got a C in English in 1969! I've got six of them now, and I'll be honest, I'm proud as punch. So before you go read the reviews, come on in and see the trophy case. Elaine says I'm showing off. Elaine is right.

Webmaster's Pick, August 1999
WEBMASTER'S PICK
August 1999
From Tim Lomeli at The Button Wall. Tim picks one site a month out of his whole link exchange. He said I saved him from two bad matinees. That's what I'm here for, Tim.
Site of the Week, July 1999
SITE OF THE WEEK
week of July 12, 1999
From Jen at Reel Talk, who reviews movies from behind a multiplex concession stand. She sees more movies than I do. A lot more. And she picked me!
Golden Quill Award, June 1999
THE GOLDEN QUILL
June 1999
From Shirley McCue, a retired English teacher who gives one award a month for good writing. An English teacher! I printed her note and my mother put it on her refrigerator. This is the one I'm proudest of, and I don't care who knows it.
Hot Site, May 1999
HOT SITE!
May 1999
From Vince down in The B-Movie Bunker, who watches terrible movies on purpose. He said any man who sits through as many cartoon sequels as I do deserves a medal, and this was the closest thing he had.
Family Friendly Seal of Approval, April 1999
FAMILY FRIENDLY SEAL
April 1999
From Charlie and Gladys Amos, who run the Family Friendly Seal of Approval. They went through every page and every link. Every one. It took them two weeks. I'm the only movie page they've ever sealed.
Award of Excellence, March 1999
AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
March 1999
My very first one! It came from a movie-site awards club that closed up shop this summer, so there's nothing to link to anymore. But I'm keeping it. You never forget your first.

Awards I Turned Down

Two, this year. One wanted me to put its banner ad at the top of my front page, and the other gave out the same award to anybody who joined its WebRing, which I found out when I noticed it was on about four hundred pages. An award ought to be for what you made, not a way to get your link on somebody's front page. That's my two cents.

My Trophy Case Rules

Every award here links back to the people who gave it, because they were kind enough to look at my page and I want you to go look at theirs. I saved every picture to my own space so I'm not using up anybody else's. And they hang in the order I got them, newest first, same as the ribbons on Chelsea's bulletin board.

Thank You

To Tim, Jen, Shirley, Vince, Charlie and Gladys: thank you. To my nephew, who taught me what a <table> is: thank you. And to everybody who writes to tell me they took the kids to a movie because of my page, or DIDN'T because of my page: that's the best award of all. (But I'll still take the other kind. Just saying.)
