~*Audrey's Free Page Designs*~
~*~ whole page looks, ready to wear ~*~

Hi!! I'm Audrey and I'm 14. I make page designs. A design is more than a background. It's a background, plus a table to put your words in, plus colors and fonts that all go together, so your page looks like it was planned instead of just happening. You can have any of them for free. Copy the code, change the words, and you've got a page that matches.

The page you're on right now is one of mine too. It's called Tie-Dye Daydream. I haven't written it up yet but I will!

~*~ The Designs ~*~

Designs Page 1
~ Leopard Lounge (black, gold and hot pink, very glam)
~ Denim Diary (cream paper on jeans, for journals)
~ Bubble Bath (for babies and little kids and fish)

Designs Page 2
~ Lace & Roses (pink and plum, kind of old-fashioned)
~ Camo Zone (for my brother, who wanted "NOT GIRLY")
~ Starport Nights (outer space, with chrome buttons)

~*~ My Rules ~*~

There are only three, and they're easy.

1. Change the words to your own. Every design has words like "Your Title Here" in it. Please don't leave them! I've seen it. It's sad.

2. Keep my little credit link at the bottom. It's already in the code, it's the smallest size there is, and it says Design by Audrey. That's it. You can move it but please don't take it off. It's the only way anybody finds me.

3. Get each background from the person who made it, not from me. I didn't make the backgrounds. I make the designs that go around them. So I don't hand out the backgrounds here, I send you to where they live, and you follow their rules too. Here's who they are:

The tiles (leopard, denim, bubbles, lace, camo, and the tie-dye on this page) come from Dot Prettyman's TILEWORK, which is a library of seamless backgrounds. She draws every one so it doesn't show its edges, and they really don't, I checked. Her rules say to put a credit line at the bottom of any page that uses one, Background from Tilework, linked to her page, so every one of my designs has that line built in already. Her rules also say no putting her tiles in a collection, so that's why you have to go get them from her. Save the tile and upload it with your own files, don't point your page at her copy. And if your page sells something, e-mail her first.
The space set (the starfield, the chrome star, the chrome buttons) comes from Dustin Mayfield's STARPORT, and it has its own rules: free for non-commercial home pages, save everything to your own space, link back to Starport with his button, don't put it in your own graphics collection, and send him your address so he knows where it landed. The link-back button is already in my Starport Nights code, exactly the way he says to do it.

If you want different colors, go ahead and change them! Dot says you can recolor her tiles all you want, but don't crop them or cut a piece out, because that breaks the seam.

~*~ How to Use a Design ~*~

  1. Pick a design and go get its background from Tilework or Starport. On Tilework, right-click inside the swatch and choose Save Background As (on a Mac, click and hold). Save it in the same folder as your page.
  2. Highlight all the code in the gray box under the design, from <HTML> down to </HTML>, and copy it (Ctrl+C).
  3. Open Notepad, paste it in (Ctrl+V), and save it as index.html. In the Save box, pick "All Files" for the type or Notepad will stick .txt on the end. (That one got me for a whole week.)
  4. Change the words! Everything that says "Your" something is yours to change.
  5. Upload the page and the background to your space, and you're done.

If your background doesn't show up, check the file name. If you saved it as Leopard.GIF and the code says leopard.gif, the server thinks those are two different files, even though your computer doesn't care.
