Hi!!! My name is Kelsey, I'm 13 and I live in Ohio. I have two hamsters (well, three if you count the ones on this page, which is a LOT more than three). This is my page all about the Hamster Dance, which is the funniest thing on the whole entire Internet and if you don't believe me then you haven't seen it yet.

What IS the Hamster Dance??

OK if you have been living under a rock (or in a hamster cage) here's what it is. It's a web page that is rows and rows and ROWS of little cartoon hamsters, and they all dance at the same time to this super fast squeaky song that goes around and around and never ever stops. That's it. That's the whole thing. And it is SO funny. I don't even know why. My cousin Danielle e-mailed it to me in March and I laughed so hard I got the hiccups and my mom came in to see if I was OK.

It was made in 1998 by an art student in Canada named Deidre LaCarte. Then everybody started sending it to everybody and now it's like the most famous page there is. Some people spell it Hampster with a P. I don't know which one is right so I just say it out loud and nobody can tell.

What's the song??

This is the best part. The song is a real song, just sped up really, really fast so it sounds like chipmunks. It's called Whistle Stop and it's from the Disney cartoon Robin Hood, the one from 1973 where Robin Hood is a fox. It plays at the very beginning while the names come up and they show you all the characters. The rooster who tells the story in that movie is Roger Miller, and he wrote the song too. My dad knew who Roger Miller was right away and then he had to tell me about like five other songs Roger Miller did. Anyway.

At normal speed it's this happy whistling kind of tune. Sped up it's squeaky and plinky and then there's the high part and then it goes back to the start and it just keeps going FOREVER. You can't stop humming it. I hummed it during a math test and Mrs. G gave me a look.

Um, where's the music on YOUR page?

I know, I know. I wanted to put it on here SO bad. But my dad says a sound file that big would take forever on our 56K and use up my page space, and my mom says if she hears it one more time she is moving to Canada herself. So you have to do the music yourself. Put your hands up like little paws. OK ready? Hum it. Faster. FASTER. There you go!!

Meet the Dancers

	Goldie Shimmy is the gold one. She goes side to side and hops with one paw up in the air and she blinks right on the beat. She's the lead dancer.
	Spinner is the grey and white one. He does a whole spin around, front, side, back, side, and then puts BOTH paws up like TA-DA. He's kind of a show-off.

I drew them myself in Paint Shop Pro and then made them move in Animation Shop, which came with it. You have to draw every picture of the dance one at a time and it took me a whole Saturday for Goldie and most of Sunday for Spinner. My brother said they look like potatoes. They do NOT. Official Hamster Dance Rules

1. When the hamsters dance, YOU dance.
2. No stopping until the song starts over. (It starts over about every ten seconds. So, never.)
3. If your little brother walks in, he has to dance too. Those are the rules.
4. Paws up for the high part.
5. If a grown-up says "turn that off," you are allowed to turn it down ONE notch.
6. Never ever show it to someone who is trying to sleep.
7. Hamsters are not allowed to do the Macarena. That was 1996. Get over it.

Things I Have Done With the Hamster Dance On

• My whole science worksheet (got a B+, so it helps)
• Cleaned Peanut Butter's cage
• Painted my toenails purple
• Talked to my best friend Jess on the phone for 40 minutes. She put hers on too. It was like stereo.
• Fell asleep. Woke up. It was still going.
