THE FULL BUS RULES & PACKING LIST!!

WELCOME!!!

Hi everybody!!! I'm Shannon, I'm a senior, and this year I am the PRESIDENT of the WHS Ski & Snowboard Club!!! I started this page last November when I was secretary, and now that I'm president it's officially ALL MINE :) Mr. B lets us have it on GeoCities as long as he reads everything before it goes up, so hi Mr. B!!

If you're new, here's the deal: every winter our club takes six Friday night bus trips to Kettle Ridge, which is about ninety minutes from school. We leave right after school, ski and ride under the lights all night, and get back before midnight. You do NOT have to be good. You don't even have to have ever done it. Last year we had 81 people go, and about 20 of them had never been on skis or a board before trip #1. By trip #6 every single one of them was riding the chairlift and getting down the hill by themselves (some of them more gracefully than others, ANTONIO).

Skiers and snowboarders are both welcome, and NO we are not going to have the skiers vs. snowboarders argument on this page. Ok maybe a little. (Snowboarding.)

SIGN-UP MEETINGS

Come to ONE of these. Bring your $50 deposit (checks to "WHS Ski Club") and the permission form with a parent signature. Spots are first come, first served, and last year we filled up!!

  • Thursday, September 23 — at lunch, our table by the windows in the cafeteria
  • Tuesday, October 5 — 3:00 in Room 214. LAST CHANCE!!!

Also: the parent meeting is Thursday, November 18, at 7:00 in the library (make your parents go, they get cookies). Final payment is due Friday, December 10.

TRIP #6

All in 2000!!! (Assuming the buses still work after Y2K. Mr. B says they're from 1991 and don't have computers in them, so we're fine.)

  • No trip Friday, February 18. It's the start of the Presidents' Day long weekend and the hill is a total zoo. Go with your family!
  • Make-up date: Friday, March 3, in case a trip gets canceled for an ice storm or (please no) not enough snow.
  • Every trip: bus leaves from the gym doors at 3:15, we get to the hill around 4:45, ski and ride until 9:30, the bus pulls out at 9:45, and we're back at school by 11:30 p.m.
  • Never been before? Trip #1 comes with a free beginner lesson at 5:00. TAKE IT. Trust me.
HOW MUCH $$$

What Per trip All 6
Bus $11 $66
Lift ticket (group night rate) $16 $96
TOTAL $27 $162

That's the $50 deposit at sign-up and $112 by December 10. You have to sign up for all six. (Sorry, the bus company and the hill make us.)

Rentals are EXTRA: skis, boots and poles, or a snowboard and boots, are $15 a night at the hill, OR $75 for all six if you sign up for it ahead of time with your final payment, which saves you $15. Lessons after trip #1 are $8 each.

FUNDRAISERS (A.K.A. FREE SKIING)

CAR WASH!!! Saturday, September 25, 9:00 to 2:00, in the school parking lot by the gym. $4 a car, $6 for trucks and vans. Bring towels and a good attitude. Last year we made $412 and got Levi with the hose about 40 times. (He started it.)

CANDY BARS!!! Monday, October 25 to Friday, November 19. Every box has 50 bars at $1 each, and the club gets $25 out of every box you sell. And here's the good part: that $25 comes off YOUR trip. Sell 4 boxes and your trip costs $62 instead of $162. Sell 7 and your whole trip is paid for, with $13 left over for rentals. I sold 6 last year. My dad's office is a candy black hole. Thank you Dad's office!!!

BUS RULES (THE SHORT VERSION)
  1. NO SWITCHING SEATS. You get a seat on trip #1 and it's your seat all winter. It's so we can count heads fast in the dark. Pick your seat buddy wisely!!
  2. Back on the bus by 9:45. We are back at school by 11:30 and your ride needs to be there.
  3. Helmets are encouraged for snowboarders (and skiers too, but especially in the park). If you have one, bring it. Ask Jennifer about her head last February. Actually don't, she's still embarrassed.
  4. Buddy system on the hill. Always.

ALL the bus rules are here, plus the packing list »

WHAT TO PACK

Layers, layers, LAYERS. It gets SO cold at night, way colder than on a sunny Saturday. No jeans!!! They get wet and then they freeze and then you're sad. Bring goggles (it's night, so clear or yellow lenses, not dark ones), mittens or gloves, a hat, some money for the lodge, and dry clothes for the ride home. The whole checklist is on the packing list page, print it out and check things off!

YOUR 99-00 OFFICERS

President: Shannon (that's me!) — skier, 4th year in the club
Vice President: Jennifer — snowboarder, will not stop talking about her new board
Treasurer: Levi — snowboarder, very good with money, very bad with a hose
Secretary: Molly — skier, only a sophomore and already the most organized person in the club
Bus Captains: Paul (Bus 1) and Antonio (Bus 2) — they take attendance and hand out lift tickets, so be nice to them
Advisor: Mr. B — skis in a one-piece ski suit from about 1985 and is the best. Don't change, Mr. B.

PICTURES!!!
Under construction
Coming soon, I PROMISE!!! Mr. B has a whole shoebox of pictures from last season, but the scanner in his room is broken. As soon as he gets it fixed there will be pictures of trip #6 (the one where it snowed the whole night) and the Great Mitten Disaster on the chairlift (Helen's mitten is still up there somewhere).
