| 1. María (A medio vivir, 1995) |
| La que lo llevó al mundo entero. Imposible quedarse sentada. Lo he intentado. |
The one that took him around the world. Impossible to sit still. I've tried. |
Dramatic and gorgeous. My favorite for singing at the top of my lungs alone in the car on I-4. |
| 3. Vuelve (Vuelve, 1998) |
The Grammy ballad. If you're far from someone you love, don't listen to it at night. I'm speaking from experience. |
| 4. Perdido sin ti (Vuelve, 1998) |
| Otra balada. |
Another ballad. I played it a hundred times the semester my boyfriend was away at school. He's back now. I still play it. |
| 5. La bomba (Vuelve, 1998) |
| Pura fiesta. |
Pure party. They play it at every Puerto Rican wedding in Orlando, and even the uncles get up to dance. |
Drums, shouting, and the whole world dancing. After Grammy night, it still gives me goosebumps. |
The number one. It was written by Desmond Child and Draco Rosa, who was in Menudo too. So this win is doubly Puerto Rican. |
| 8. She's All I Ever Had / Bella (Ricky Martin, 1999) |
The same ballad in English and in Spanish. My mom likes "Bella" better. I can't decide, so they share a spot. |
| 9. Be Careful (Cuidado con mi corazón) (Ricky Martin, 1999) |
| ¡Con Madonna! El nene de Menudo cantando con Madonna. Si me lo dicen en 1986, no lo creo. |
With Madonna! The kid from Menudo singing with Madonna. If you'd told me that in 1986, I wouldn't have believed you. |
| LA GIRA / THE TOUR |
Dicen que sale de gira este otoño. Todavía no sé si viene a
Si no

They say he's going on tour this fall. I don't know yet if he's coming to
Orlando or Miami, but as soon as they announce the Florida dates, I'm buying
tickets. Since June I've been saving the tips from my waitressing job in an
envelope marked RICKY in my dresser drawer.
The plan: my cousin Valerie, my friend Sarah and me, in Valerie's car, with
Puerto Rican flags out the windows. If he comes to Miami, we drive. If he
doesn't come to Florida at all, I'm going to San Juan to stay with my
grandmother. One way or another, I'm going to see him.
I saw him in 1986 with Menudo, from row twenty-eight. This time I want to be
closer.
