MEMBERS' SCOOTS
FIFTEEN RIDERS, FIFTEEN MACHINES, ONE VAN

Here's the whole stable, oldest first. Everybody's on here by first name or what we call them, because nobody in this club has used their last name since 1996. Pictures coming as soon as Tamra gets her film back from the drugstore. She's had it since July.

SCOOTRIDERTHE STORY
1961 Lambretta Li 150 Series 2MattTwo-tone gray, original paint, original everything. Matt's grandfather bought it new in England and it came over in a crate when Matt's family moved. The oldest scoot in the club and the best behaved.
1963 Vespa VBBDariusBought in pieces in Norfolk for $300 and three boxes of parts. Took him two years. Light blue, eight mirrors, and a rack that's held a whole case of records.
1964 Lambretta TV 175 Series 3RudyRed and white, crash bars, a flyscreen, and the club's best paint job. Rudy is also the owner of the chase van, a '78 Ford Econoline with a ramp, a cooler and every spare part known to man.
1965 Lambretta Li 150 Series 3BernieThe kitchen-table rebuild. Bernie plays drums in a punk band and cleaned every part of this engine with a toothbrush. It runs better than anything else he owns, including his van.
1965 Vespa 90JasonThe smallest scoot in the club, ridden by the tallest member. Jason is six foot three. His knees are up by the horn. He gets passed by bicycles on hills and he does not care.
1966 Vespa SprintBobby (me)White with a two-tone seat. $400 with a seized engine, six months of evenings, and Greg's patience. Eleven mirrors so far. My girlfriend says twelve is too many. We'll see.
1967 Vespa SS 180JeffThe one everybody wants. Jeff found it in a barn in Goochland County in 1997 under a tarp and twenty years of hay. Took Best Vespa at last year's rally and he hasn't stopped talking about it.
1969 Lambretta SX 200TamraPale yellow, chrome side panels, and the fastest thing in the club. Tamra leads the ride because nobody can keep up with her anyway. Best Lambretta at last year's rally.
1970 Lambretta GP 200MarvOrange, and loud. Marv bought it from a guy in Baltimore who swore it had never been dropped. It had been dropped.
1972 Vespa Rally 200Big MarkBig Mark is the oldest member (37, don't tell him we told you) and he rides a big-frame 200, which is only right. Electronic ignition, so it starts every time, which he will tell you about.
1974 Vespa Super 150AngieHer first scoot, bought this spring. Dark green, a little rusty, totally reliable. She took the Hard Luck award last year for a flat tire, a broken clutch cable and a thunderstorm, all on the same ride, and she came back the next Sunday anyway. That's an Ace.
1981 Vespa P200EGregBlack, scruffy, 31,000 miles, and it goes anywhere. Greg is our mechanic, our jetting guru and our conscience. He rode it to a rally in Pennsylvania and back and only stopped for gas and pie.
1990 Bajaj ChetakVernBuilt in India on the old Vespa design. The Vespa guys tease him about it constantly. It has never once broken down. Vern is very quiet about this and lets it speak for itself.
1993 Yamaha JogCandaceA modern 50 with an automatic, and it keeps up better than you'd think. Candace commutes to VCU on it every day, rain or shine, and has more miles this year than anybody.
1995 Honda Elite 50KristaKrista is 19 and the newest member. She's riding the Honda until she finds the right Vespa, and the rest of us are looking hard on her behalf. If you've got a clean small-frame for sale in Virginia, e-mail us.
