Hey. I'm Andy Yount, I'm 19, and I'm a sophomore at a state school
in Wisconsin where the single most important hour of the week is
Wednesday at 10:00, when about thirty guys cram into the lounge on my
floor to watch South Park on Comedy Central. There are not enough
chairs. People sit on the pool table. The RA has given up. I've been watching since the first one in August of 1997, back when a guy on my cousin's floor had a copy of the Christmas short that got passed around on videotape before the show even existed. The animation looked like somebody's art project and I still thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. This page has the characters (below), my favorite episodes, and the thing everybody e-mails me about, the Kenny log. Note to anybody's little brother: this show is rated TV-MA for a reason. Ask your parents. Seriously. I'm not getting yelled at by somebody's mom again. |
STAN MARSH Blue hat with the red ball on top. The normal one, basically. He throws up every time Wendy Testaburger talks to him, which is the most accurate thing ever put on television about being eight years old and liking a girl. Voiced by Trey Parker. |
KYLE BROFLOVSKI Green hat, orange coat. The smart one and the one who gets the most worked up. Has a little brother, Ike, who is adopted from Canada and gets kicked around like a football, which Ike seems to enjoy. Voiced by Matt Stone. |
ERIC CARTMAN Red coat, blue-green hat with the yellow puff. Selfish, loud, spoiled rotten, always scheming, and somehow the one everybody in my lounge does impressions of. His mom is way too nice to him. Voiced by Trey Parker. |
KENNY McCORMICK Orange parka zipped all the way up, so all you ever hear is mumbling. The other three understand him perfectly. He dies. A lot. See the Kenny log. Voiced (mumbled?) by Matt Stone. |
CHEF The school cafeteria cook and the only adult in town with any sense. The boys go to him for advice, and he usually answers with a song. Voiced by Isaac Hayes, which is still the coolest casting decision in TV history. |
MR. GARRISON (and MR. HAT) Their third-grade teacher, who does half his teaching through a hand puppet. The puppet is often the more reasonable of the two. |
OFFICER BARBRADY The town's entire police force. Couldn't read a word until last year. Protects and serves, in theory. |
MR. MACKEY The school counselor. Huge head, tiny tie, and a verbal habit at the end of every sentence that my roommate has now picked up permanently. Thanks a lot, Mr. Mackey. |
TERRANCE & PHILLIP The boys' favorite TV show: two Canadian guys whose entire act is one kind of joke. Parents hate them. That's the joke about the joke. And the whole plot of the movie. |

THE MOVIE
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut came out June 30 and eleven of us went opening night. It's rated R and it earns it, so I'm not going to go into detail here, but here's the short version: it's a musical, it's really a musical, the songs are actually good, and the one about blaming Canada is stuck in my head permanently. The Kenny stuff at the end got me. I won't spoil it (okay, I kind of spoil it on the Kenny page, you've been warned). |
