Everybody who's been in the strip so far. All three of us are in that basement every Thursday
night, and all three of us said it was okay to be drawn. (One of us bowed.)
[NEWEST STRIP] [ARCHIVE]
MINDY
(that's me)
19. Freshman, art major. The new kid.
Short black hair, big round glasses, and a hooded sweatshirt about three sizes too big with the
sleeves pushed up, because I'm always just about to draw something. My sketchbook goes everywhere
I go, and as of strip #4 that includes the convention. I'm easily flustered, I never know which
side I'm on, and I will drive anywhere if I get to wear a cape. I've drawn myself more times than
anybody else in the strip, and I still don't think I've got me right. Christa says my glasses keep
changing size. She's right.
Subs or dubs: both. (Please don't tell them.)
Most likely to say: "I... like both?"
First strip: #1

RUDY
21. Senior, and president of the club.
Very tall, with long dark hair in a ponytail and a long black coat that comes down to his shins,
which he wears every single Thursday, including the one in September when it was 90 degrees out.
His backpack is always full of tapes. He owns more tapes than anybody I have ever met, every one
labeled in tiny capitals, and he trades by mail with people all over the country, which is how we
got the fourth-generation tape from the guy in Ohio. He is dramatic about everything: a new tape,
a hungry VCR, a road map. He is also the one who shook my hand with both hands the first night I
came, and I'm not sure there would be a club without him. His coat uses up more ink than the rest
of any strip put together.
Subs or dubs: dubs. Loudly.
Most likely to say: "Stand back. I've done this before."
First strip: #1

CHRISTA
20. Sophomore.
Tall, with long straight light hair held back by a headband, a cardigan over a turtleneck, a long
skirt and boots, and the sharpest eyebrows in the student union. (I'm still working on getting them
right. She checks.) Christa is the club's fiercest defender of subtitles. The original voices are
the true art, and she will tell you so with her arms crossed. She doesn't say much, but almost
everything she says ends up in the strip, because she's usually right. She was also the first
person in the club to explain something to me without making me feel dumb (see strip #1, panel 2).
She's taking first-year Japanese this semester so that someday she won't need subtitles at all,
which she says is the whole point of subtitles.
Subs or dubs: subtitles. This is not a discussion.
Most likely to say: "...That's the wrong tape."
First strip: #1

- The TV and the VCR, on a tall metal AV cart with wheels. Nobody knows where the club
got them, and nobody has ever asked for them back. The VCR has eaten one tape that we know of
(#3).
- The couch. Long, saggy and older than any of us. It's where I sit, and it's where
everybody sits during the arguments.
- My car. Mentioned in #4, not drawn yet. Coming
soon to a road trip near you.
