Twice a year, every March and every October, we fill an elementary school's multipurpose room
on the east side with gently used kids' clothes, toys, books and baby gear, and half of
Sacramento lines up outside. You don't need to have twins to shop or to sell. Last fall we sold
4,100 items for 212 consignors, and the club's share paid for the expectant moms' program, the
lending closet and our holiday party.
| Consignor drop-off | Thursday, October 7, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. |
| Volunteer & consignor presale | Friday, October 8, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. |
| THE SALE | Saturday, October 9, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. |
| Half-price hour and a half | Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (items marked with a dot) |
| Consignor pickup | Saturday, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. |
For Shoppers
The early line. If you want a double stroller, get here early. Really early. The line starts
forming by 6:30 and the doubles are gone by 8:10. We hand out numbered tickets at 7:30 so nobody
has to hold a place in the cold.
Bring a laundry basket or a big bag. No strollers in the sale room before 10:00, because the
aisles aren't wide enough and somebody gets run over every year. We know the irony.
Kids: please leave them home for the first hour if you can. It's crowded and it's a lot of
stuff at toddler height.

Good to Know
Cash or check with a driver's license. No credit cards; we're a mothers' club, not a store.
Everything is sorted by size and by boys and girls, with matching sets in their own section,
since this is a twins' sale.
All sales final. Our volunteers check the equipment at drop-off, but look things over and
ask us to plug in anything that plugs in.
Hungry? The bake sale table is by the door. Somebody always brings lemon bars and they always
sell out by 9.

For Consignors
Anyone can consign. You price and tag your things, we sell them, and you keep most of the money.
Karla Scotto and Joan Francis are our sale co-chairs and the final word on everything below.
| You keep | 70% of your sales. 80% if you work one three-hour volunteer shift. |
| Consignor number | Free for members, $5 for everyone else. E-mail us by October 1 to get one. |
| Limit | 100 items per consignor. Matching outfits for twins can be hung together and count as one. |
| Season | Fall and winter clothes only, please: long sleeves, jackets, sweaters, Halloween costumes. Save the shorts for March. |
| Your check | Mailed within two weeks of the sale. |
Tagging:
- Use an index card or heavy paper tag, safety-pinned to the garment or taped to the toy. Write your
consignor number, a short description ("boys 2T red sweater") and the price.
- Price in whole dollars or 50-cent steps. Put a dot on the tag if it may go half price at 11:30.
- Clothes go on hangers, with the hook pointing left like a question mark, so they all face the
same way on the rack.
- Pin sets together. Put small things (socks, bibs, shoes) in a zipper bag and tag the bag.
What we take: clothes that are clean, freshly washed, with no stains, holes or missing
buttons; toys, puzzles and games with all their pieces; books; strollers, high chairs, swings,
bouncy seats, play yards, cribs and bedding; maternity clothes. Anything that runs on batteries
must come with working batteries in it.
What we don't take:
- Car seats. No exceptions. You can't tell by looking whether a used seat has been in an
accident, and we won't take the chance with anybody's babies.
- Cribs with slats wider apart than 2⅜ inches (a soda can shouldn't fit through), or with
missing hardware.
- Anything that's been recalled. If you're not sure, ask.
- Stuffed animals, unless they're new with tags.
- Underwear, unless it's new in the package.
Unsold items not picked up by 4:00 on Saturday are donated to a shelter for women and
children. We can't store anything, sorry.
Volunteers Needed
Sorting on Thursday night, setting out and restocking on Saturday, checkout, the bake sale table,
and teardown. Every shift gets you 80% instead of 70% and a spot in the Friday presale, which is
where the good stuff goes.

E-mail Karla and Joan at the club address below, or sign the clipboard at the October 14 meeting.
Oh wait, that's after the sale. Sign up by e-mail. Joan has asked me to say she will not hold a
shift for you because you said "maybe" in the parking lot.
