SEE RUBACAVA
Fog · Jazz · Cat Races · Shipping Lines to Everywhere

Welcome Desk  ◆  Year One  ◆  Year Two  ◆  Year Three  ◆  Year Four

Year Two is my favorite part of the game, and the longest. A year has passed. Manny has done all right for himself in Rubacava: he runs the Calavera Café, a nightclub with a casino in the back, and Glottis is right there with him. Rubacava is a foggy port town full of sailors, gamblers, beatniks and cat races, and you can wander it for hours just listening to people. Do. But Manny has never stopped watching the docks for Meche.

◆ PASSENGER ADVISORY: STORY AHEAD ◆
Highlight to read. This is the setup for the whole year.
Meche finally turns up in Rubacava, and she isn't alone. Domino has her, and before Manny can do a thing about it, she's gone again, out to sea on a departing ship. The rest of Year Two is about one thing: getting Manny and Glottis onto a boat after her. And the only way onto a boat is to sign on as a sailor, which takes a union card, which takes a job, which takes about half of Rubacava.

◆ GETTING TO SEA ◆

1. You need a union card.

Travel Tip: Charlie, the gambler with the ticket printer, can make you one. Charlie never does anything for free. What's he lost lately?

ITINERARY (highlight to read):
Charlie will fix you up with a union card if you get back his suitcase, which is hidden away beneath the High Rollers club. That's a whole trip of its own. See the next two stops.

2. Getting into the High Rollers.

Travel Tip: Manny can't just walk in. But Glottis could, if he had the right pass, and Glottis has been dying for a night out.

ITINERARY (highlight to read):
Charlie will give you his VIP pass. Give it to Glottis, and he'll head into the High Rollers lounge, which gets you where you need to go.

3. The way down.

Travel Tip: There's a kitchen, and somebody in it who's always in the way. Your scythe isn't just for reaping. And a barrel can carry more than wine.

ITINERARY (highlight to read):
Lock him in the pantry, using your scythe to jam it shut. Then ride down inside the keg. At the bottom, drive the forklift into the elevator and ride it slowly, watching for a level that isn't on the buttons. When you spot it, raise the forks to catch the gate and get in. Charlie's suitcase is there.

4. There's no opening on a ship.

Travel Tip: Every crew is full. Somebody would have to leave a ship for good. There's a sailor named Naranja who's very fond of his bottle. What if it disagreed with him?

ITINERARY (highlight to read):
At the tattoo parlor, prop the refrigerator door open with the vegetable crisper so that Naranja is distracted. Use a turkey baster to put something in his drink that he really shouldn't be drinking. When he passes out, take his dog tags.

5. Naranja needs to be officially dead.

Travel Tip: Membrillo the coroner identifies bodies by their tags. He'll need to find them. He's going to want a little help finding them.

ITINERARY (highlight to read):
Put Naranja's dog tags on one of the bodies in the morgue. To help Membrillo find them, you need Carla's metal detector. Drink the gold-flake liquor (twice) and walk through her detector until she gets so fed up she throws it out the window. It lands in the cats' litter box. Fish it out with your scythe and give it to Membrillo.

6. The Sea Bees.

Travel Tip: The dockworkers' union could stand to be a little more organized. Somebody in town has exactly the right book for them.

ITINERARY (highlight to read):
Give the union book about labor revolt to the Sea Bees. It goes about as well as you'd expect, and somebody ends up arrested, which means you'll need a lawyer. That lawyer is Nick Virago.

7. Nick won't help.

Travel Tip: Nick doesn't help anybody unless he has to. Everybody in Rubacava suspects something about Nick and Olivia. What you need is proof, and a photograph is proof.

ITINERARY (highlight to read):
Take Lola's coat check to Lupe at the coat check. What you find in the coat sends you to Toto at the tattoo parlor. Then use Charlie's ticket printer to make the right race ticket and take it to the photo booth at the cat track. The picture is of Nick and Olivia, and it is not one Nick wants anybody to see. Show it to him, and he'll help.

Once the papers are in order, Manny and Glottis go to sea, and that's the end of Year Two. It's a long year. You earned it. On to Year Three >>
