The Stage Door WebRing
Home pages by music lovers, theater people and artists of every kind
Ringmaster: Theo B. · Started April 1999 · Back to Theo's Theater Page

What this ring is

A WebRing is a bunch of home pages on the same kind of subject, linked in a circle: every member's page has a little box near the bottom with "Prev" and "Next" links, so you can start anywhere and walk all the way around, and a "List Sites" link that brings you here. Nobody owns anybody else's page. The ring just connects them.

The Stage Door ring is for anybody on GeoCities.us who makes something: a band, a community theater, a songwriter, a poet, a painter, a photographer, a garage band, a kid with a sketchbook, a lady with a cello. If you get up on a stage, or you make things that other people look at or listen to, or you write about people who do, you belong here. I started it in April 1999 with three sites. We're at eleven now and I'd like to be at twenty by New Year's.

The name is from the stage door, the door at the side of a theater where the actors come out after the show and the fans wait. It's where the people who make the thing meet the people who love it. That's the idea.

MEMBER SITES, IN RING ORDER
Start anywhere. "Next" from site 11 takes you back to site 1.
1. The Crescent City Stompers — Lionel P., bandleader
A six-piece traditional New Orleans jazz band of hobbyists with day jobs: their gig calendar, who plays what, and a short history of the music.
2. Theo's Theater Page — Theo B., New York
Reviews of the Broadway season from a standing-room regular, how to get cheap tickets, and the home of this ring. (That's me.)
3. Riverside Community Players — Jean K., publicity chair
A community theater's 1999-2000 season, audition notices, and a call for volunteers to build sets and sew costumes.
4. Songwriter's Corner — Travis L., aspiring songwriter
An aspiring Nashville songwriter's page.
5. Hometown Pickers Bluegrass Jam — Earl and the pickers
A bluegrass jam session's home page.
6. Poems from the Attic — Margaret A.
Margaret's poetry, online.
7. Charcoal & Coffee: A Sketchbook Online — Ines R., art student
An art student's sketchbook.
8. The Darkroom Diary — Ray T., amateur photographer
An amateur photographer's darkroom diary.
9. Poetry Slam Tuesdays at the Blue Door — The Blue Door coffeehouse
A coffeehouse's Tuesday-night poetry slam.
10. The Basement Tapes: Our Garage Band — Josh, Danny, Mike and Alex
Four guys and a garage band.
11. The Amateur Cellist — Helen W., 52
An amateur cellist's page. From here, "Next" brings you back around to the Stompers.

How to join

1. Have a page. It needs to be about music, theater, dance, writing, art, photography, or something in that family, and it needs to be up and mostly finished. (An "under construction" sign or two is fine; we all have them. A page that's nothing but the sign isn't ready yet.)

2. Family-friendly only. Nothing you wouldn't show your grandmother. This ring gets visitors of all ages and I want to keep it that way. If I have to explain why your page doesn't qualify, it doesn't.

3. E-mail the ringmaster (that's me, [email protected]) with your page's address, your name the way you want it shown, and one line describing the page. I'll look it over, usually within a few days, and write back with your spot in the ring and the addresses of the sites before and after you.

4. Paste the ring code onto your page, near the bottom, with your name and your Prev and Next links filled in. It looks like this:

<table border="2" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
<tr>
  <td align="center"><img src="/images/buttons/webring.gif" width="88" height="31" alt="WebRing"></td>
  <td align="center"><font face="Arial, Helvetica" size="2" color="#000000">
  This site is a member of the <b>Stage Door WebRing</b>,<br>owned by <b>YOUR NAME</b><br>
  [ <a href="PREV SITE">&lt;&lt; Prev</a> | <a href="/Broadway/Marquee/2244/ring.html">List Sites</a> | <a href="NEXT SITE">Next &gt;&gt;</a> ]
  </font></td>
</tr>
</table>

5. Tell me when it's up and I'll add you to the list above and let your new neighbors know to update their links. That's it. There are no dues, no meetings, and no rules beyond the ones above. If your page moves or goes away, please tell me so the ring doesn't get a hole in it.

The ring button is the standard 88x31 one at /images/buttons/webring.gif; you don't need to copy it, just use that address. The GeoCities.us clip art library has it and a lot else.

April 17: The Stage Door WebRing opens with three sites: the Stompers, the Riverside Community Players and me. Long live the ring.
