GeoCities.us Announces Year 2000 Readiness

The company has completed testing of its servers, software and member tools for the Year 2000.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 21, 1999 — GeoCities.us today announced that it has completed the testing and upgrading of its systems for the Year 2000. The work covered the company's Web servers, databases, network equipment and member tools, as well as the systems it relies on from outside suppliers.

"Our Homesteaders have put a great deal of themselves into their home pages, and we take our responsibility to them seriously," the company said. "We have tested every system we could find, and we have contingency plans for the ones we can't control."

Homesteaders' pages and files will not be affected by the change of date. As an extra precaution, GeoCities.us will make complete backups of member files in December 1999 and will have engineers on duty throughout New Year's Eve.

GeoCities.us encourages its members to check their own computers for Year 2000 readiness. Helpful advice can be found on member home pages in the SiliconValley neighborhood.
