GeoCities.us Welcomes Its 3 Millionth HomesteaderMembership has tripled since the fall of 1997 as families, hobbyists and small businesses move onto the Web. SANTA MONICA, Calif., September 14, 1999 — GeoCities.us today announced that its community has grown to more than three million Homesteaders, making it one of the most popular destinations on the World Wide Web. Membership has tripled since October 1997, when the company welcomed its one millionth member. The three millionth Homesteader, a retired schoolteacher from Knoxville, Tennessee, joined the Heartland neighborhood to share quilt patterns with her sewing circle and her grandchildren. "My granddaughter showed me how to do it on a Sunday afternoon," she said. "By Monday I had pen pals in Oregon and Australia." "Three million Homesteaders is a milestone, but what we're proudest of is who they are," the company said in a statement. "They're teachers, grandparents, Little League coaches, hobbyists and small business owners. The Web is becoming a place for everybody, and GeoCities.us is where many of them are making their first home." Homesteaders now publish more than 40 million pages on GeoCities.us, and the community adds more than 5,000 new members every day. Every member receives 11 MB of free space, a free e-mail address and easy-to-use building tools, including Page Builder 2.0. About GeoCities.us This news release contains forward-looking statements that involve risks and uncertainties, including the company's limited operating history, its dependence on advertising revenue, competition, the management of growth, and the continued growth of the Internet.
